"I recently acquired a horse that has a lot of anxiety issues. He can be really calm in certain situations, but if another horse comes around, he goes into full stallion mode - snorting, tail flagged, the whole nine yards.
I thought a calming supplement would be good for him in addition to his new work plan. I tried him on the Smart Calm Ultra Pellets with no effect. So I decided to try the Relax blend as it has different ingredients than the Smart products.
At the same time, I moved him to a new barn where he is exposed to more activity around him. In just 3 days at the new barn, he became a different horse! I was actually able to longe him in the indoor with other horses and was able to ride him during turn-in time.
I wasn't sure if it was the new environment or supplement (or both), so I stopped the supplement. After 2 days, he was back to trupetting to other horses and jigging around while getting groomed. I started the supplement again and within 3 days he went back to being able to be handled easily.
I highly recommend this if you have a horse that acts "stallion-y"."

"This supplement works but it's way too dusty. A lot gets left in the bottom of my horse's bucket. It has a strong smell and sticks to everything because it's very fly away. Make it in pellets, and I'll buy it again."

"This product did work to help calm a very anxious horse. The supplement has a strong odor and initially I needed to add molasses with the feed to get the horse to eat it. The supplement is also a very fine powder and is very dusty, so care must be taken when preparing food so that it does not cross into other horses' feed."

"Product had a strange odor to it and was a very flighty, orange powder. I have a big horse, so I gave him even a little more than the recomended dose and he finished the entire bottle and had no different results in his temperment or focus. He recently started some naughty behavior: rearing, bucking, nipping etc. I had him checked by a vet among other things and he has slowly calmed down but this is two months later, and no help from this supplement as he has been off of it for a while since we finished it. Worked slightly for a friend's horse, no such results with my 18 hand warmblood."

"My horse will not eat this suppliment, even mixed with sweet feed and drenched molasses. I wouldn't consider him to be a picky eater either! It's such a fine powder you have to blend it with a moist feed, and even then it blows all over the place when pouring it into the feeder. It stinks too, I guess I don't blame him for not wanted to eat it. Sadly this one will have to be thrown away!"

"Hard to tell if it is working. I believe it may have taken the edge off my horse. I do not like the powder aspect of it. I feel the need to wet it down so it doesn't go up their noses and it is hard to mix with water."

"Like most Thoroughbreds, my baby is on the hot side. He is a ridiculously confident horse, but under saddle likes to play spooky games. A series of almost catastrophic injuries led to prolonged stall rest, almost 18 months. He quickly built up a tolerance to Acepromazine (nicknamed Vitamin A because of the daily dose).
I was desperate to find something to keep him calm. His aerobatics were impressive and scary. I tried ALL the calming supplements over many months. This one has the highest quantity of Valerian and it WORKS. I was able to reduce the amount of daily Ace, a huge relief.
My boy has been off stall rest for 6 months and after working back up to turnout, he's off Acepromazine too. So I thought, he's on turnout, back to light work and happy, why not take him off of Relax too? MISTAKE! After a week, I had my aerobatic horse back. He had difficulty focusing and I didn't appreciate the spooky games. I had no idea just how much this supplement was WORKING! If I could work him like a regular horse, he'd be more focused, but he's permanently disabled so light work only. Which is apparently boring to a Thoroughbred.
He's back on the supplement and after some adjustments, I think 1/2 dose will work just fine. I don't intend to ever take him off Relax.
The smell put him off at first and he didn't want to eat it. It does smell very strong. He only gets oats, not sweet feed or complete grain, so I added beet pulp and now the entire mush gets gobbled up. I would definitely recommend this product. It works."

"I bought this for my boy when he was stuck on stall rest for 6 weeks. He was getting really upset and difficult to handle after a few weeks so I tried this supplement. It really made a difference. He is easier to handle and seems way more comfortable. Since he is naturally kind of spooky and easily excited, I am thinking about keeping him on this for a while. I just want to make sure that it's safe for long term usage first."

"My 9 year old WB has not been allowed turnout since tendon surgery in June. He was nicknamed the "brown Lippizaner" at the barn for his acrobatics at the end of the lead line, until I started him on Relax Blend. Other calming supplements did not work nearly so well to maintain his sanity. This is a quality product that really works. I found it palatable for a picky eater, and addressed the "powder poofing" issue others have commented upon by just mixing in a handful of water with the feed."

"On the recommendation of a friend I bought Relax for my horse when his only pasture mate died suddenly of colic. He was frantic and sedation only provided short relief. After just one dose he visibly quieted and stopped pacing, and has stayed calm since without being sedated or stumbling. I would use this product again in a heartbeat and have already told all of my friends about it!"

"I have a 5 year old TB cross mare that tends to get a bit "moody." After 2 weeks on this product even my farrier noticed a difference--she's much more mellow & even-tempered. It took a day or 2 for her to get used to the smell, but she eats it w/no problem. I highly recommend!"

Stall resting

April 30, 2008
Bycrazynina37

"RelaxBlend is sooo amazing! I have had my horse on it for about 2 months and it has kept him sane on 2 1/2 months stall rest while he heals his leg. I have also had him off of it for a period of time because I was out of town and there was a SIGNIFIGANT difference in his behavior w/out RelaxBlend...he spooked and kicked me, but when he is on it he's a sweetheart! I wish it was pelleted because I hate seeing it poof away and out of the feed!!! Can't wait for stall rest to be over...I also trust that it isn't harming my horse's stomach b/c it's natural."

Powder poof

February 26, 2008
Bylyni1953

"Relax Blend works great if you deliver it in another form than the powder alone (you can mix in a large amount of molasses, but watch out..it swells to peanut butter consistency). Just mixing it straight into feed was way too dusty and it went all over in a smoky cloud of dust. I changed to Confidence+ and although it is also a powder, it doesn't poof away (up my horse's nose) and works wonderfully."

finally fun

"I have a "middle age" Tennessee Walker that has always been very nervous and spooky. I have tried several calming supplements and even used injectible tranquilizer out of desperation so I could ride with friends! Since feeding Relax Blend once daily, he is a more relaxed horse. He is more tuned into me and little things don't turn into big problems. All my friends have noticed the difference. I love it!"
