"I'm not a western rider, but after I shattered my leg, and was going through endless PT I needed a stable, easy-to-slip-on boot that would protect and keep my ankle (and all its hardware) warm but not apply any pressure. A barn friend suggested the Ariat FatBaby or ProBaby, and they were right--these are super comfy, very accommodating for a wide calf, have held up amazingly well for three years, and clean up really well for non-barn wear.

While the sole is ostensibly stirrup-safe (heel, smooth tread), be warned it is a wide sole, so you might want to go up a stirrup size, especially if you normally ride English."
