Customer Reviews for Rodney Powell Elite Body Protector

Rodney Powell Elite Body Protector

The Elite is lighter, more flexible and breathable than ever before with enhanced protection over the spine and ribs. The protector utilizes a single layer of Nastec X32 foam through the length of the spinal region to provide unsurpassed protection against sharp impacts and to ensure the vest stays in close contact with your back. "This is a great vest, comfort and quality-wise. However it was too long in the back to fit with my Western Dressage Saddle cantle.
For English riders or Western riders with a low cantle, this vest would be perfect. Rated a 4 in durability because it looked sturdy but I never rode in it so I don't know for sure."

"Sadly I had to return this vest, though I wanted to like it quite badly. I simply could not comfortably fit my upper chest into it and the fit under the arms was too bulky. However, the quality of workmanship and materials looked great and I'm sure if it fits your body shape then it would be a lovely vest and very protective."

"I bought this vest because of it's safety ratings and could not be more pleased with it's comfort and fit. It is so comfortable, really conforms to your body. And actually fits my tall torso - it covers my tailbone without letting the shoulders out, and covers my ribs. Aside from the heat generated, I forget I'm wearing it. GREAT product!"

"This was a great vest, comfortable, able to adjust many ways but the spine length interfered with the cantle on my Western saddle.
Very suitable for intermediate hunter/jumper or event type riding. This was more vest than I needed.
Exchanged it for the Tipperary Ride Lite which is shorter in the back and better suited to my riding style."

"Great protective vest and more comfortable than others I've tried, probably due to adjustability around the torso. Much more mobility in the shoulders and arms. I ride dressage, just bought a youngster and am getting to the point in my life where falls are not as easy to recover from. If you're looking for a little piece of mind, this is it! Vest runs a bit large, but exchanged through SmartPak no questions asked - even after I rode in it once!"

"I bought this product because I've started doing more hunter paces and cross-country jumping and I figured if I wear an approved helmet, why would I not protect the other most important part of my body? I have also worn it on a regular trail ride and may even barrel race in it. The vest came ahead of schedule (awesome!#. It does have a powerful chemical smell, but even after only 2 rides, it is dissipating. The vest is a little tough to zip, but if I loosen the sides first, it makes it a bit easier. It feels a lot like a corset, but after about 5 minutes of riding, I no longer realize I am even wearing it. While mounted, it is not the least bit restrictive #I DON'T advise trying to put your horse's boots on while wearing it, though!). It is pretty hot to wear, which will be nice in the cooler months. However, all of these little things aside, I feel much more protected and I really love the vest. It's appropriately priced, if anything, a great deal considering some non-certified vests cost more! I ordered the 2 Standard size, and I am 5'2", ~115# and it is snug, but not too tight. The next size up would be too large, I think. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my vest, and would recommend it to anyone!"
