"I used this for my mare who I suspected to have ulcers. I treated her heavily with ranitidine a few months ago for a few weeks and then switched to the U-Gard. It seemed to help, but when I tried it again recently after having ulcer-like symptons without treating with ranitidine or GastroGuard, I saw (and am seeing) no results. I do believe that is how it should be however! Keep in mind this is a preventative, not a treatment.
Palatability is very low, at least for my mare. It is a large amount of powder and a very sweet one at that. A loading dose would be impossible to feed as she will barely eat one dose! The powder is more like flour than a sugar or salt, so if you do not feed it with a wet mash, it will all fall to the bottom of the bucket. I have found that it does mix well with a wet, soupy bran mash. I would recommend the pellets as an alternative, but they are nearly double the price!"
