"This is my cribber's current collar that he wears in his stall. I can't turn him out in it or his buddies drag him around and choke him by yanking on the extra material. Unfortunately this collar has to be very tight to be effective, mine is on the tightest hole. If it's rubbing then you have it too loose. My horse does not even lose hair around his throat, though he does get grey spots from the metal piece itself. This is a step up from the Miracle Collar, but not as effective as the Dare."

"I have had horses that crib over the years! and have always bought the expensive collar with the two straps, never again! the expensive collar leaves marks on their heads and makes them sensitive to bridle process. This one does not. It WILL relax some, but just add a hole or two!"

"I tried a more expensive collar of different style with large throat block and my OTTB cribbed right thru it even with it as tight as it can go. I have found only the nutcracker style works for him and this one is nice because it is leather and will break away if he gets it tangled. Does rub him in some spots, but so does every other collar I tried. Good quality leather, just needs more holes punched as it stretches."

"I like this cribbing collar due to the leather strap, because I feel it is safer when I turn my horse out to pasture and in his stall I know it can break if it needs to. However because it is leather when he attempts to crib he stretches the leather out so more holes are needed( just the motion, not actually cribbing, otherwise he would be colicky all the time) I also had to put new holes in it just so it would fit (too large). The new holes are easy to place with leather punch. The leather is soft on their neck as well and doesn't rub as long as you put fleece around the metal part. I would get another one, much better than the french style, that rubbed raw or nylon strap that can't break in emergency."

Not the best but will do the trick in a pinch

"We have used these on and off for over 20 years and I dont like using them. Luckily we found the French collar. These nutcracker collars tend to rub and cut into the bridlepath area, frequently will shift if on a smart horse and on top of it all they dont seem to fit all that well on every horse. I only recommend using them if you are in a real pinch until a better collar (french collar!) can be purchased."
