"I am just the purchaser. The trainer told me what to order. The idea was to provide more control of a large and determined horse by a lightweight young rider. The rider seems very satisfied with them when associated with a new bit. I put her level of expertise in your required section. I do not ride."

"This a great rein. This rein is easy to grip and doesn't slip through my hands like a smooth rein. It has made getting used to riding with a double rein much easier."

"Bought these to be used for a curb rein. They work great because to the judge they look like flat plain reins, but they have the extra grip from the rubber so I can keep a better hold on them on the hot summer show days."

"I love Collegiate tack and these reins are really nice! They are awesome value they last forever. I still have collegiate reins I bought 15+ years ago in Australia. I have never had any problems with Collegiate tack at all. These reins are great for everyday riding and suit both western and english style bridles."

"Having pretty much always using laced reins (and having them slip out of my hands) I decided to give these a try seeing as they appear to be somewhat compareable to the ThinLine reins (just couldn't justify the $100-it's not Christmas yet). What I really like about these is, as I previously mentioned my laced reins have always slipped through my hands, these do not. I honestly feel that since I no longer feel that I need to well.. white knuckle my way through my ride to hold onto my reins (user error-yes) that my hands have become softer and my horse is responding positively to my hands. My only gripe is the leather is a little stiff but that's easily remedied with time and care. I'm not sure about the durability, seeing as I have only been using them for about a month but I've had a lot of luck with Collegiate products in the past."

"A bit thick and stiff, but good value for the money. Some small leather discolorations, and taking some time to oil and break in, but overall seem like a good product"

"I was looking for thinner rubber reins that also looked good. These met the bill. The leather shows well, but the rubber prevents slippage. I have smaller hands, and it was difficult to hold the reins and my whip. I bought them for both my bridles. The edges tend to be a little rough, however, but with gloves-no issues."

"I recently purchased these when my other reins broke. I was impressed with how nice they are. From the outside, you can't notice the rubber, but you can definitely notice the improved grip! My horse is pretty jumpy, and it's nice knowing that I have extra grip and control know. I wish I'd bought these years ago."

My favorite reins

January 14, 2007
ByAnonymous
fromCT
"I love these reins. I am very petite, so the thick rubber reins are awkward for me to ride with. However, web reins don't give me the grip I'm looking for. These are a great compromise, and look very professional as well. I have a pair in black for my dressage bridle, and a pair in brown for my jumping bridle. They do fray after a few rides, but the threads that stick out are easy to trim before a show."
