Customer Reviews for SmartSwitch Spurs

SmartSwitch Spurs

SmartSwitch Spurs are a popular choice with riders. The rounded plastic roller is a softer aid than a traditional metal spur. These roller spurs come with a set of interchangeable color rollers. You can swap out the whole roller or use two different colors. Includes a pair of nylon spur straps. SmartSwitch Spurs come with a pair of pink, purple, navy & gray rollers.

Lost too many ends although adorable!

"I was very excited to get these spurs to add a little color to my tack however after two rides and very tightly screwed on ends I lost my first colored end. A week after applying the second color end I found them in the middle of our barn aisle, then in my horses stall. These spurs are adorable but the screw ends need to be redone so they actually stay on better. Sadly I've had to use my other spurs now as I just don't trust them. :( My mare did love the rolls though so I'll be purchasing a different pair with roll ends."

"My daughter LOVES the different colors. We both wish they sold replacements and brighter colors. The colors are muted, but still fun. They do come loose, use lock tight to keep them from falling off. They come with nylon straps, we replaced those ASAP, just don't look as nice. But better than coming with no straps at all."

"I bought a pair of the short neck version of these spurs only to have the roller balls fall off immediately like a lot of people are saying. I bought these so that I would have replacement balls for my short neck, and got the added bonus of a long neck pair too. I put one replacement set on my short neck (after drilling the hole a little larger to accommodate these slightly chunkier stems) and a pink pair on the long neck over a year ago. I have yet to lose a roller ball, and when I went to take off the black set yesterday they were on so tight that I couldn't. I've been very pleased, but would just LOVE if the roller balls could be purchased separately, even if it's just black so I have an acceptable back-up if I should ever lose one at a show.
In short, I love these though I don't always want to ride with a long neck, and the short neck version was terrible about losing the original balls. These replacements worked out great for me but with a little effort."

"As long as I remember to tighten them before I ride, they've been fine. But they need to be checked between horses/rides too. I lost one during my second ride of the day. I like the price and will just change the color until I lose another."

"Very pleased with quality of product and monogram. However, I lost one of the black roller ball sets during my first ride despite tightening before mounting. I recommend using a loc tite product(for screw threads) to keep the roller ball in place."

"I was looking for spurs as an "in case" situation and found these. I purchased them because of the options of colors and thought they would be fun to have to try and match pads and polos. I used to ride many different horses so I wanted to be prepared and have spurs on hand just in case. Well I have been through a couple of colors already because the screws come loose. The balls get dirty from use so the colors don't matter anymore, haha. BUT despite the oopsies with the screws, these are great spurs. I've had them for about 5 years now. :)"

"Despite the reviews I read earlier about how the rubber roller falls off, I ordered these anyways. I took care to hand-tighten them once before I rode. After an intesnse jumping lesson, the spurs were not only still intact, but the roller had not loosened at alll. The engraving looks beautiful!"

"These are good spurs, but the first time I used them, one of the balls on the spurs fell off. I put a new ball on and tightly screwed it on, and it fell off again. Other than them falling off, they are good spurs and work well."

"My husband put some Loc-Tite (from the hardware store) on the threads of the roller balls before twisting the halves together and I have had no problem with these coming apart. Better construction than the Short Neck Rollerball Spurs. The advantage of the Loc-Tite is that, unlike super glue, you can get the halves apart if you want to switch the roller balls. It does take a bit of exertion, but you can break the seal of the Loc-Tite. Just be sure to reapply fresh solution when reassembling."

"We bought these spurs and the very first time they were used, the plastic roller came apart and it was lost for good. We are on color number two. Haven't used them yet, so don't know how they'll hold up. They should come up with a different way to connect the roller to eliminate the chance of losing them."

"I used to use a small spur on my thoroughbred jumper, and then he started getting rubs on his sides. I decided to try these instead and I am so happy I did! They're gentle, but effective!! I also like that I can mix and match the colors. He goes so well with them. Another great Smartpak product!!"

"I bought these spurs after I saw a friend of mine using them at a show. She had the pink rollers so I asked her where she found such spurs and directed me to the vendor at the show. They were cheap and fun so I got my own set. However, my rollers unscrewed during one ride, so I would make sure they are screwed on tight. I'm the only person who has had this problem, so I might have got a defective set. I ended up just choosing to do a two-tone spur (in green and grey, my colors) and added a dab of superglue into the female end of each screw before putting them together. They have held up brilliantly as I wear them every day, and I don't mind not having the option to switch the colors. I like my custom spurs!"
