Rein-Aid? inserts easily attach to your current bridle and promote the feeling of an elastic, following contact. Rein-Aid? encourages horses to relax, accept the bit and round through their topline. A leather loop limits the stretch of elastic for precision and safety. Rein-Aid? teaches the rider the feeling of soft hands without changing their ability to control the horse. The Rein-Aid? insert buckles to the bit and the reins buckle to a ring on the Rein-Aid? as shown in the photo (above). Riders should tie a knot in the bight (end) of their reins if the reins become excessively long and shorter reins are not available. Black or Brown.

My trainer had me use her rein-aid when I purchased my new horse and I liked it so well I bought my own. It has helped me have lighter contact. Rein-aid is an excellent product for amateur riders trying to achieve softer hands.

I can't fault the quality or value or durability. Just my horse didn't like the feel of it. She refused to round and when I took them off she did. No explanation - just is what it is.

I bought these to use when not-so-expert friends come to ride, and I think they'll be very helpful for this purpose. I tried them on both my horses, and they seemed quite happy. I wouldn't call them a "gimmick" at all - just a very useful little gadget that seems to work well.
I was impressed the results I saw with my very sensitive tb. Would reccomend to anyone with an oversensitive mouth despite best efforts. His confidence was noticeably improved.

I bought these for horses in training that are very sensitive & resistant to collect or accept the bit- wow, what a difference. A good item in the toolbox of any rider. It really creates a soft feel, and would also suggest this for students learning contact as well. It creates a more forgiving hand, and encourages relaxation for the horse. Great for nervous TB's.

I was anxious to try this product based on the reviews but unfortunately it didn't work for me. My horse is very high headed and I was hoping it would help our contact. Unfortunately I found that the elastic was so tight (even after 6 weeks of daily use and frequent stretching) that I had to be pulling pretty hard on my horse's mouth in order for it to stretch the elastic. In the end I returned it to SmartPak (thanks to their awesome return policy) and went back to using my German martingale which I find more helpful in maintaining an even contact and getting my horse on the bit.

Works as described. Purchased for a 14 year old to use for dressage and hunt seat. The horse is built very upright and needs very soft and consistant hands. Rider has trouble keeping contact at the trot. The horse is happier, much more consistant and the rider is really learning what 'contact' feels like. I had the rider work these by hand a bit before putting them on the bridle to relax the elastic a little. Pricey, but I will be recommending them for riders with the same problem.

Let me preface this review by saying generally I disdain these sorts of devices but, I do think they have their place when used for short periods of time. I think they're probably best for people who don't have the best feel just yet. I purchased as an alternative to draw reins and for my situation, I used them for maybe 4 rides to deal with a head tossing/overly opinionated issue in a greenish horse just learning to accept contact and found them to be effective in getting us over that hump. They are beautifully made, but, the horse I was using them on is on the small size and these make the reins seem very long, so please exercise caution when using them on smaller mounts. A little on the $$$ side but I think they are very well made.

This allows my horses to seek the bit and not "set" themselves on it - it allows me to have a more relaxed feel and not lay on their mouths. I love it

I was skeptical about this product, but I have a sensitive mare that does whatever she can to evade contact, so I thought I'd give these a try. I've been using them for about a week, and they are making a difference. I also like that my trainer can see how much pressure I'm applying to the rein. They are made with high quality materials, but I think they're a little overpriced.

I put these on and WHAT a difference! Not only was I more relaxed (by not worrying about tearing up my mares mouth with my busy hands), but my sensitive little horse was SO much more focused and supple! This is a great training tool - I recognize that it's a crutch and should NOT be used forever, but it's making a huge impact on both of us and I really feel like I'm learning better hands because of it. Also, SmartPak had the BEST PRICE for the product - everywhere else is charging $5-10 more! Hooray for SmartPak!!!

While I'm not a fan of "artificial aids" (draw reins, martingales, etc.) I decided to try this product on my off-track-thoroughbred, who I'm retraining for the hunter ring. I was having a lot of trouble getting him to relax and lower his head. He would get fussy when I tried to pick up contact. I attached the rein-aids to his bridle and there was an immediate difference. I write this review more for my horse than for myself. He loves them! He feels so much more relaxed when I ride now! He's happy to drop his head and round his back. What a wonderful design! Horses everywhere recommend this product!

I'm not in the habit of hanging on with the reins, but I know I've caught my horse in the mouth on occasion despite my best efforts to the contrary. (We've just recently taken up eventing after years of dressage and other earthbound pursuits.) He lets me know when I've messed up by giving a good solid buck, so I got the Rein-Aids to protect us both! I was especially happy to find that they don't adversely affect the contact or "feel," which I'd feared would be the case. We're still several mini-trials away from a verdict on the jumping issue, but there's been nary a buck at home since I added these to the reins.

I've had a heck of a time getting my thoroughbred mare to accept the bit, and the Rein Aids are helping us. I think she notices more give than I do--the reins don't feel that different in my hands, but she is more willing to stretch and round.

I purchased this to help with my young horse. They helped extend the reins as well as gave him a bit of a cushion in case he tripped on rough terrain out on the trail.
Quality if nice, worth the price. Workmanship is very good. When elastic finally goes out, it will be worth repairing this item.

I started using Rein-Aid about two months ago. I have been riding for only a couple of years, and I am always worried about accidentally hurting my horse's mouth. The first time I used Rein-Aid, I noticed a difference in my horse. He was softer, rounder, and more compliant. Since then, I have used them every ride! As a developing rider, they help me know what contact should feel like while the elastic allows my horse some 'give'. Great product.

I've been away from riding for awhile, and have a new (and green) horse. I bought these so I won't bump his mouth while I'm getting used to his gaits & improving my form, & while he's gaining experience & getting more balanced. I don't even notice they're there; he still responds quite well.
