Heaven is a pair of custom-made boots, but few and far between are craftsman who have the skill and know-how to fit your feet in comfort. Der-Dau is one of the few remaining companies that do just that. Many people wear the work of Der-Dau's founder, Jose Der and his son Joseph, and its many skilled craftsman. "I purchased these boots about a year and a half ago and barely wear them as they are so painfully uncomfortable! I had gone to the store and was measured and picked out leather and styles. When they arrived 8 weeks later they were completely miss shaped. The bottom of the calf was painfully tight causing my feet to go numb and there was 3-4 inches of extra leather around the circumference for the 3 inches below my knee. They were sent back 5 times over the course of 9 months, each time requiring me to drive 2-5 hours to the store or headquarters to leave empty handed. Finally on the 5th visit they were forcefully zipped to the top by Joseph Derdau himself. When zipped my feet and legs went numb within 15 seconds! During the 6th time back to Derdau I was given the option to have full elastic gussets put in because they had cut away too much leather. I was told a refund was not possible as they were custom and that the store had to pay for the “additional” alterations. Even after wearing them for close to 25 rides my feet still go numb and they cause my ankles to bleed."

"I have a very hard to fit leg, with a 10 size foot (which is very narrow, so I find many boots exceptionally uncomfortable) and a 10" calf, 21" high. I guess I'm what you could call a freak of nature. Dehners didn't have the leather quality, Vogels didn't have the comfort, but Der Daus were the most comfortable, stylish, and best boots I could have asked for. I don't think I'll ever appreciate my Ariats ever again after wearing these boots."
