"I took 6 saddles on test rides before buying this saddle. My pony is wide, with prominent shoulders and I am a full sized person that needs at least a 17 1/2 inch seat. I often find things that fit him but not me or fit me and not him. This saddle was a good compromise. I have had the new saddle for about a month now and he moves very well in it and I have no trouble staying balanced on the flat or over fences. The quality of the saddle is reasonable for the price. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that the leather has a funky orange hue and it has a strange processed feel to it. I knew I would have to give up something since this saddle is priced much lower than high end models and I am happy with the purchase. I will concede that the leather is more pliable than many other new saddles that I have ridden in - it just doesn't have the feel or smell of the higher end leather saddles that I have had in the past.
In response to one of the other reviews, I changed the gullet out to a extra wide in both the demo and my new saddle without any problems. If there was a problem with this in the past they seem to have fixed it."

"I couldn't even test ride this saddle since the adjustable gullet would not go any wider than the installed medium gullet. No way, no how. When I called SmartPak for some assistance, and explained that I knew how to change gullets, etc., they told me that they had this issue with the Collegiates. So, if you need a saddle with anything wider than a medium, don't bother. I also thought the overall leather quality was only fair, cardboard-ish. The saddle also ran small in the seat and the flap was tiny. Not impressed at all."

"I bought this saddle over two years ago and have never been happier. It had been almost fourty years since I had ridden english and within hours I felt like an old pro again. This saddle feels broke in from day one and has a nice secure feel to the seat. Can`t beat it for looks, feel and value. Super saddle at a super price, also my growing boy loves the interchangeable gullet system since he always has a great fit. A ++++"

"After the saddle i had for 4 years prior to this purchase was wearing out i reitred it to my barns lesson program, I bought this saddle on a buget that could not go over $1,000. i thought maybe i was cutting it a little close but it was worth it. this saddle fits both me and my horse and is comforatable and i feel ballanced on the flat and over fences in the hunter, EQ, and Jumper rings. Its not as quite nice as some of the $2,000 saddles some riders have but it is close and works great for some one who cant spend alot on a great saddle."
