Customer Reviews for Happy Mouth Jointed Boucher

Happy Mouth Jointed Boucher

A favorite with top trainers, Happy Mouth bits are covered with a soft, flexible, yet extremely durable, apple-scented plastic which encourages acceptance and softness. Straight mouth bits have an inner core of twisted wire for more flexibility. The core of the Happy Mouth Jointed Boucher is stainless steel. All cheeks are stainless steel. 5, 5 1/2, 5 3/4.

"My warmblood responds nicely to this bit. I feel that the happy mouth is a softer alternative to metal for a young, responsive horse. He is much happier in this bit than he was in a lozenge bit."

"I ride a young, half-bred draft mare who can be very strong and disrespectful in a snaffle. I switched to a 2-ring elevator bit which has given me the respect, softness and control I needed, but this bit is not permitted in dressage competitions. I have begun to use the jointed boucher bit (which is allowed in competitions) and it definitely has more authority than a snaffle, but not as much as the elevator bit. So I alternate between the elevator and the boucher and slowley the mare is beginning to figure it out and carry herself with more balance and impulsion. I am not disappointed."

"My rescued Paint gelding loooves this bit! He'd been severely mishandled in his past, and ridden way too hard. He's still rather green, and I wanted him to learn that learning can be FUN! He'd been going fairly well in a regular Boucher, but seemed to dislike the metal in his mouth. (I also sometimes ride him in a bitless bridle.) Since his dentition wasn't the issue, I felt that perhaps he would prefer a coated bit over a plain metal one. I decided to try the Happy Mouth Jointed Boucher. After I put it in his mouth for the first time, he actually sucked on it for a few minutes! Now training sessions are so much more enjoyable for both of us. He's more responsive and actually seems to like being ridden! As for durability, the plastic coating has gotten slightly scratched up after several uses, but is still safe to use. Still a great bit at a great price!"

"This bit is fully meeting my expectations. There's nothing exceptional about it ... My horse likes it, it's the right size and nicely priced. I had to order a different size, so I appreciate that SmartPak will accept returns on bits and even sent a shipping label. I didn't use it, but some sellers won't take bits back at all."

"I have had good luck with these bits. They are good looking and affordable. The metal holds up really well, but of course, the plastic parts do get a bit chewed up. But I think that is expected."
