A favorite with top trainers, Happy Mouth bits are covered with a soft, flexible, yet extremely durable, apple-scented plastic which encourages acceptance and softness. The Happy Mouth Shaped Mullen Pelham has an inner core of twisted wire for more flexibility. All cheeks are stainless steel. 5, 5 1/2.

"I have a horse who just can't tolerate nutcracker style (jointed) bits, and doesn't like even a french link. I tried this in desperation. He loves it and I love it. He accepts it well and drops it well - with a metal bit getting it out of his mouth was hard, he did not like it clanking down against his teeth and would throw his head."

"I have tried many bits on a schooling horse at my barn and he trys to spit them and refuses them alot. when i got this bit i was not sure what to expect from him. Turns out he loves it. He accepts it with joy and is super soft and responcive to it. I think he is much happier with this bit than any other i have used!"

"I've been using pelham with solid plastic for jumping and felt my horse fixed and dead in his mouth. He is powerful and hot but also very sensitive that I wanted to do better by him. I feel his mouth again with this one and he comes back to me softer with subtler aids. I will keep trying other bits as well and eventually use snaffle for flat. Also want to try three rings with a bit converter as well for jumping.
I heard that they end up eating the rubber and that's another reason I don't want to only rely on this bit. But so far so very good!"
