"In my hunt for winter breeches I settled for these and a pair of on sale Mt Horse, and these are by far the better pair. As others have said, these fit very similar to Trophy Hunters by Tailored Sportsman which is my go to breech for best fit and true to my size with TS. These are thicker but not in any way so thick you even know these are insulated breeches and they are softly felted inside with a nice dirt repelling outer fabric. They have a bit of a swishy sound but not bothersome to me at all. I do believe the knee patches are real suede leather and if not, they are the best quality faux I have seen; much thicker than TS and other knee patches. These have the classic over the knee seam which I like, and are slightly lower rise. If I was to be picky about anything it would be that there isn't a belt loop at the center back cause my belt rides up above the waist band because of that. Otherwise, this is a very top quality breech and worth the higher price. Oh, by the way, the navy blue color is really more of a muted blue grey, not a rich deep navy at all. If they had other colors than tan, I would definitely order another pair."

"These are so comfortable and such a better fit and look than any of the cheap (or expensive) pull on and bulky winter pants that one can usually find. Yes they run a bit short but the fit and the flattering cut is worth the adjustment, especially when Smartpak lets you return for no cost! Wish they weren't dry clean only."

"... I found a pair of winter weight riding pants that are just that: winter weight. they are almost just like my Trophy Hunter's which is why i love them, the first time I put them on I knew I'd never wear my pocketless yucky winter tights again. I a 5'1", these are the perfect length, and even tailored sportsman could learn a thing or two from the way these pants velcro at the bottom. Only downside is the fit around the knee is oddly tight, all in all I can for sure live with it. love the blue color too. A+"

"I was excited to try these breeches for winter but they were just not what I was hoping for. I ordered the beige and they arrived a very odd material. Very slickery and with a sateen sheen. I think I would be embarassed to wear them they were so shiney. I know others have said not but I feel the shine on them is very obvious and not subtle. They also made a loud swishing sound where the shiney fabric rubs against the lining and I think they would be slippery in the saddle. They were slippery just to sit down on a chair in. Also the fit was terrible. I am fairly tall and they were short to the point of looking like a childs breech. I cannot believe these are $150 breeches. I returned. First off - they were short to the point where I think most of my calves would be covered in sock and not breech - but I also think I would prefer to do long johns under breeches based on looks."

"These breeches have a nice look, the fabric has a little bit of a sheen to it but not very noticeable. I would be comfortable showing in these pants in winter conditions (if they fit). They look like they would hold up well as far as shedding dirt. I would prefer that the fabric had more stretch for comfort.
These breeches indeed fit like they are custom made--for someone else--a VERY short person. I'm guessing that other reviewers found the calves to fit so tight because the part that ends up around the top of the calf was probably intended to fit around the ankle of the 4'8" person these breeches were tailored for.
I'm 5'8" with skinny calves and there was just no hope for these pants on me."

"VERY happy with this purchase. FIT: Although it sounds like other customers had difficulty with sizing, I found these to be very true to size. That is to say, I ordered the size I wear in a Tailored Sportsman side-zip and the fit was identical. I've worn them both under paddock boots/half chaps and under my tall boots, the fit is fine in both, same as other breeches. FUNCTION: The breeches provide warmth and block wind as promised. They're the warmest breeches I own and they still feel like you're wearing BREECHES, not tights or snow pants. They do NOT interfere with or affect my ride and they DO make winter riding more tolerable. LOOK: They're not bulky like you might expect and they don't look like you're wearing big dorky snow pants or anything. In fact, no one has a clue I'm wearing "winter breeches" unless I tell them. They are pretty much a winterized TS breech. Same cut, knee patch, over the knee seam, pockets, ankle closure etc. I bought blue because I prefer to school in colors that don't show dirt as much, but I'm sure the tan would look fine if you're doing a winterschooling show or clinic. QUALITY/VALUE: Well worth the price. They are the same price as the TS I buy to school in the rest of the year and hold up even better to washing. I am going into my third winter with my first pair and there are no signs of wear.
The ONLY dislike I've ever heard about these is the very subtle "swish" noise you can sometimes hear due to the wind-blocking, hay-shedding fabric. To me, the warmth is WAY worth 1 out of 10 people asking "what is that sound?""

"I couldn't find a size to fit me. The 24 was too small ( I always wear a size 24, except occasionally this size is too big) and the 26 was too big. The finish on the material seems great for shedding hay, hair and shavings but also seems as though it would be slippery in the saddle. I don't know for sure because I must return them do to the sizing. It would be nice if there was a full seat version. They do seem like they would be nice and cozy without the bulk. If they had fit I probably would have kept them."

"These breeches do not seem to be true to size. I typically wear a size 24 and in some cases a 22. I ordered the 24 and they are much too small to fit me. The quality seems good but I also didn't realize when I ordered that they are not available in full seat; only knee patches. I can't comment on the comfort or fit in the saddle since they are too small and will be returned."

"A great idea, the fabric seemed really great and I would even show in them. I usually have to order a long but in some pants I can get away with a regular and know that they will be a little short. When I tried these on and the entire knee patch was above my knee. So they were short but also big in the waist. If they were able to change the fit I may order them again."

"If your calves measure over 13", don't bother; you'll never find out if the size 30 fits in the waist because these breeches are so tight and non-stretchy through the calf, you won't be able to pull them up past your knees. On the other hand, if you have rather more delicate calf muscles and somehow manage to squeeze into these pants, you might decide you like the weirdly shiny fabric and invitingly fleecy interior. Undoubtedly they are warm, but my pair is going back. Hopefully they will find a happy home with a pair of less robust legs. Would recommend to a *wispy* friend."

"I just ordered these pants with the hopes to show in them at "A" rated shows during the cold winter months. I was a little skeptical but thought it would be worth giving them a try. Needless to say, I just ordered a second pair but in navy for schooling. Contrary to other reviews regarding the "looseness" around the bottom of the calf - not so for me. Actually, I find the TS are way to loose but these were great. They could be a little longer but they are warm and so unbelievably comfortable. They aren't too think like the other winter breeches. I could actually zip up my monaco boots. :-) I highly recommend."

"I loved these I have foxhunted in them several times and they are great! The extra room at the bottom everyone complains about is wonderful and not to large so you can get wool socks under or over your breeches! They look wonderful. WIsh they had rust and an actual tan color. Warning if you order the "tan" they are actually beige and that's even what they say so on the packaging! Hello! But they are very nice and look like and feel just like my royal hunter tailorder sportsmans. Will buy more!"

"I should have heeded the other reviewers comments! They run short which makes for chilly lower legs. They also run large (wide), especially in the lower leg. I would have returned them for a smaller size; however, I was afraid the legs would be even shorter.
They are warm/ windproof and appear well made. The styling is traditional and looks lovely in the saddle. The fabric does not breathe; so once you sweat the moisture has nowhere to go. I noticed the moisture gathers at the seams as this is the only place it can escape, thru the thread holes.
If you are short legged, and don't perspire, these would be fine. Otherwise, keep shopping."

"I bought a pair of these last year, when they only came in blue. I was glad to see they finally made them in tan for winter clinics and shows.
They are styled like a traditional breech and are not bulky at all. The fit is comparable to a regular TS style. I'd say the only downside is that they are still cut really short - be prepared to wear with a pair of knee high wool socks if you want your whole leg to be warm. Otherwise they are just the ticket if you want a show-appropriate breech for the winter."

"These breeches seem to have no taper below the knee and are enormous in the calf and where the velcro closes. The will have to go the the tailor before I can wear them. This added expense detracts from their overall value. Otherwise, they look okay. Since I have not worn them yet, the jury is still out."

"These breeches actually kept me warm in sub-zero temperatures while riding in a unheated indoor and working around an unheated barn! I think the fact that they are windproof (but still breathable) helps a lot. I can't tell you how much a difference it makes just having these on instead of normal breeches with long underwear, regardless of what else I'm wearing.
The tag says dry clean only, but I've washed them in cold water on the delicate cycle and then hung to dry with no problems (after many washes) at all. I only wish they came in more colors!"

"I like the traditional styling of this breech. They look a lot like the regular TS breeches, very flattering. Unfortunately, although overall they fit similarly to the TS models... the calf is super short. I am only 5'3 and they end at mid calf on me, very uncomfortable under half chaps and definitely leaving my leg pretty chilly unless I do wool knee high socks.
I wish they would offer lengths and a tan color... in which case I think they'd be the perfect winter show breech."
