Gives the right amount of 'go'

"I bought the longer version, have a quiet leg with a sensitive mare and find these spurs to be very effective in subtly reinforcing my leg and encouraging my mare to be very responsive without annoying her with sharp prodding. I don't know how the little rowels contribute to this, but believe the length and roundness create a great 'hearing aid'. Having never been ridden in spurs before, my mare was a bit 'swishy tail' at the canter for a few days, but with a slight readjustment on my canter depart aid, she is performing beautifully with them. The results are even quieter cues with faster response."

The Perfefect Spur

"I have tried so many spurs on my mare for dressage. They were either not long enough or just to much poke. She would kick out or ring her tail at any spurs I used forcing me to show with a whip. I had a pair of nob end western spurs she went fine in but I couldn't show in them. Then I found these! They are so great, I can give a soft touch and even really push her when I need to with out any distraction or getting upset."

"good purchase. Never tried the covered arms before--nice. Spur is soft enough not to cause my sensitive mare to think she is being attacked but enough to give her some more incentive. --EXACTLY the combo I was hoping to get with this purchase!"

"I bought these for my thoroughbred who gets spur rubs very easily. I am so pleased with these spurs as they do not leave a mark and elicit a nice response from the horse. I recommend these spurs for all types of horses. I bought the long and short neck."

"I'll admit, I don't like poking my horses with spurs. I feel mean, and I worry I'll mark their coats. But, I need them, they have to listen, and sometimes NOW. And then I found these. I love the rubber coating, they don't slip on my boots, and they barely show. The "business end" leaves very little damage to the horse's skin or coat, which I love, yet gets the message across. Doesn't seem to pull or break the hair. I'm ordering a second pair in the longer neck length. I've had several friends order them after trying mine."

"I have a lot of spurs as most of us do. I decided to spend the money on these and I am glad I did. I got the short neck ones and I really like them. They are solid and well made. They are a great everyday spur."

"When I bought these spurs, I purchased them from a small tack shop while in South Carolina. There, I was able to get both the spurs and spur straps for what SmartPak is charging for the spurs alone so the value was great for me. However, after hearing how the plastic rollers have a tendency to fall apart, I'd rather pay for these now than continually paying for spare rollers.
To the spur, these are great. I am fairly tiny - under 5'4 and under 100 lbs so sometimes it takes me more to get a response out of the mare I ride than it does the others who ride her just because I'm so much smaller. As I started progressing with her, my trainer advised me to look for a spur that would give her enough of a reminder to listen without making her angry. These spurs are great for that. Most of the time just one little, soft touch with them gets a response. There have been times when she's needed more and I've been able to get more out of the spurs without feeling like I'm stabbing her in the sides with them.

"I really like these spurs. I have tried other roller ball spurs and these are my favorite. They don't feel flimsy, but feel like they have a nice gentle, almost springy touch on my horse. He seems happy with them. Good value for a very useful spur. I like the rubber as well."

"These are great spurs...my horse just needed a little bit more direct pressure but I didn't want to get some big spurs with fairly sharp points. I also ride bareback a lot and I was afraid that if I got western spurs I might accidently jab her with them. I don't have to worry about that in these spurs and I know that it won't hurt her if I loose my balance and go to fall...hasn't happened yet but I know they won't hurt her. :) They are expensive but I think they are worth it."

"I love these spurs - they're gentle enough to not cause rubs on thin skinned horses, but there's still enough there that you don't have to do bizarre contortions to use the spur. I was worried the rubber would make them tough to put on and take off, but that's not at all the case. I am very pleased with these spurs!"

"I love these spurs, they are just enough to remind my sensitive mare of my leg aids without pushing her over the edge. I chose the shorter neck (20MM) and they are perfect. Very well made, excellent Stubben quality (a little on the $$$ side, but, I expect them to last forever) and I have had no problems with neck width, but I have small-to-average feet/ankles/heel areas."

"I got these spurs for a 4 year old Quarter Horse I'm training. I have never needed spurs on any horses until I met this guy. He does not move forward with leg pressure so to help him feel my leg aids, I wanted something VERY mild since I'm not a fan of spurs. These work wonders with him. They get a little dirty on the ball part from his sides, but it wipes right off. I even use them on my Ariat Western Bomber boots and they fit very well!"

"I haven't used these spurs yet (my boy is double half-leased for the next month or two) but they look great! The spinny part glides smoothly, so I know my horse won't object as much as he usually would. They were a little pricey for my budget, but $40 for spurs is to be expected, especially for a name brand. They are constructed with good quality materials and it shows. I am glad I went ahead and spent the money for them."

"First let me say these spurs are well made. Currently I ride with the short-neck plastic roller ball spurs, but the space in the middle of the ball has an edge, and I wanted something smoother. The roller-ball on the Stubben spurs is much nicer than the plastic, but overall the spurs are just too big. The neck length is a little longer than the short plastic roller-ball spurs. My main objection is the branches of the spurs are way too long putting the spur strap too far in front of my boot heel, and so the spurs keep slipping back. Also, the whole foot part of the spur is bulky and too big for my size 8 boot. They are going back."
