"I have an older, chronically foundered, IR, Cushings mare who would eat 9 bales of hay a day if you let her. She's one of those who won't spend 5 minutes sleeping because that time would be better spent EATING don't you know!! After 1 week on SmartControl IR, I noticed her laying down and taking naps during the day, and when I put her in the stall with hay, she nibbles, then naps, then nibbles a little more, then hangs over the wall to watch the happenings in the barn, then nibbles some more. She isn't the ravenous, hay sucking monster she used to be. She used to clean up 6 pounds of hay in about 20 minutes (was she even chewing it?), now the same 6 pounds is lasting several hours. Her turnout time on pasture has not changed, the amount of grass or other feed has not changed. Nothing has changed except adding SmartControl IR. Also, she's better about coming in from pasture to the barn. She used to stay out in the pasture grazing when the other horses were up at the barn, because she couldn't stand to quit eating. She has lost that raging hunger she's always had, which should help her to lose weight finally! The palatability of the powder isn't the greatest, but I feed soaked beet pulp so that isn't really an issue, and now the pellets are available so that's probably even better. It smells WONDERFUL but the horse likes it to be well mixed in the beet pulp."

"This may be great. Purchased for my 6 yr old Morgan gelding who tends to obesity, even on very short rations (2 hrs on bermuda pasture, 1 flake of bermuda hay in divided doses!).
After a founder episode, I realized I had to get serious.
He had been drinking nearly 30 gal/day, probably associated with insulin resistance. After about 10 days on this supplement, his water consumption has normalized! He seems to move around more during grazing period, less furious eating.

Maybe this will work out.

I changed my order to pelleted form -- the powder is nice stuff, but hard for the poor guy to eat straight from an empty bucket (no grain for weight control). Was delighted that they had released a pelleted version.
High accolades to SmartPack for ability to respond to feedback!

"Having purchased a new horse for Christmas last year, we didn't realize he had EMS. This product has made such a difference in our new Morgan gelding. His fat deposits have leveled out, his hooves have improved, and his attitude has changed from constant frenzied foraging to an occasional daytime nap! I just changed to the revolving shipment. Thank you Smart Control! I'm sure you've saved our relationship!"

"Smells great and has so much good stuff in it! My mare eats it right up; all I do is moisten a bit of molsses-free beet pulp and stir in the SmartControl IR. I've only been feeding it a few weeks, so it's too early to tell much, but during that time, she has had no forced exercise due to external circumstances, and she has not ballooned up like she usually does during layoffs."

"I work for a vet, but wouldn't you know, my Saddlebred, Bourbon, foundered badly. His founder was severe, but with careful management, nursing care, and trimming, he got over the acute phase when he was down most of the time. I have had to be very careful with his diet, but sometimes he will have a flare-up anyway. I can tell when this is starting to happen because he will drink alot, flood his stall with urine, and try to eat non-stop. Then his feet will start to hurt.
I like Smartpak products, and many of our clients use them. I read about the IR product and decided to try it when Bourbon started to have an episode. I took an insulin reading: 158--oops, way too high! I started him on the Smartpak IR; he ate only one scoop once a day, not the two recommended for laminitis bouts (because it took him a little while to like the taste--though wouldn't you know, my other horses who do not need this product LOVE the taste and try to steal it from Bourbon). After less than two weeks I measured his insulin again and it had dropped to 110--still high, but heading in the right direction. I was able to get him to eat the two scoops a day, and noticed while I was doing this, he stopped the unremitting drinking/urinating/binge eating behavior. I did not test his blood again, because I knew he was doing well. This year he has been on Smartpak IR all summer, starting in early spring, and has had no episodes. I still watch his grass intake; he gets an hour in the morning and an hour at night. I have been able to shoe and ride him all summer. Pretty good for an old Saddlebred! I carry copies of the Smartpak description of the IR product on the vet truck, and pass them out to all the owners of metabolically challenged horses. Overall, among our clients, the consensus is that it works very well! As an added benefit, some of our clients are saying that it also has a calming effect on horses that in the past have been excitable. I wouldn't say that this product works for everyone, but the majority of our clients who have tried it are very pleased with what it has done for their horses. I certainly am!

"I have a genetically insulin resistant horse (we had to euthanize her mother years ago for the same problem).
This horse was lame for months, and not growing any hoof. Desperate, I started looking for anything I could try to save this horse. I found the IR supplement and began treatment. It did take months, but she started growing new hoof, is now back to riding, and feels better than she ever has. Her Xrays are now normal. Having gone through this in the past, without this product I would have had to euthanize my girl. Took her
awhile to accept the taste, but she finally adjusted.

"I have a horse with IR, which fortunately was caught early. After extensive research, I came up with a list of all the recommended minerals, etc for IR horses. SmartControl IR has more of those on the list than any other supplement I could find. It also does not include ingredients that could be detrimental. This supplement appears to have helped with his treatment."

"I have a 26 year old mare who we figure is insulin resistant and/or cushinoid based on multiple factors. She's done the best with dietary management and a good work program, but now that she is retired it's hard to keep her looking as good. Early this Spring I decided to give the SmartControl IR a try and have really liked the results! Roany's lost the extra padding above her eye's and seems much more fit! She's still a little cresty but much improved! I don't know how much is the supplement and how much is pasture management, but I will definitely keep the girl on it from now on! Her attitude is great too!! Thanks SmartpaK!"

"I happen to have 2 borderline IR horses, one of which HATES his muzzle with a passion. It's not any fun having to put it on him every day when he's a 16h, 1500lb monster of a horse. He about broke my nose a few times, even. So imagine my pleasure when I realized that not only were my boys losing weight, but they were losing weight WITHOUT wearing their muzzles! I absolutely LOVE this produt and recommend it to everyone I come across who it might benefit."

"I have been using this product for over a year and it is definitely helping keep my mare's weight down. She had the typical crested neck and can put on weight just looking at food.
She doesn't particularly like the taste so if I don't mix it with apple sauce she will push it aside and I find it at the bottom of her feeder in the morning.

"My 15 year old QG gelding has been diagnosed as insulin resistant. We've had issues with chronic laminitis over the past 4 years. Putting him on Smart Control IR has helped him through the removal of fatty deposits on his belly and haunches, and has helped reduce his cresty neck. My vet and friends noticed the difference! Although he hasn't always been crazy about the supplements in his food, he does eat it! Heck, it smells so good, I wish I could eat it! Maybe it would help with my "fatty deposits" too! LOL!"
