Adequan® I.M.
Adequan? I.M. is FDA-approved for the intramuscular treatment of non-infectious degenerative and/or traumatic joint dysfunction and associated lameness of the carpal and hock joints in horses.? Adequan? IM is available in 5 mL vials, packaged individually or in boxes of 7, or as a 50 mL multi-dose vial (all vials contain 500 mg of PSGAG per 5 mL).

"Started my 12 yr old ISH on this about 6 months ago. He's schooling 4th level and doing some very extraneous work. At first it felt like the magic shot, then he started showing some signs of lameness again( about a 2 from a scale 1-10). Started him on some joint supplements and got his stifles injected . Right now he seems to be sound. Really appreciate the price compared to getting it from the vet . Recommend this to other buyers but if you have an older horse and want to see a difference I would pair it with some supplements."

"Our older mare did well on Adequan for several years. Then we took her off it to try injectable glucosamine instead. Soon she was shuffling around, unsteady on her feet, her hind legs so stiff she could hardly lift them for hoof-picking. We switched her back to Adequan, and she is again cantering cheerfully around the pasture.
The sports medicine vet said Adequan wouldn't help Sapphire because the arthritis in her knees (the obvious problem) is too advanced. Our regular vet said the reason it helps may be that it is supporting other joints that help her compensate. Whatever the reason, Adequan is helping Sapphire (now 31) enjoy her well-earned retirement!"

"I have an older mare with very bad arthritis, her back leg would turn in. since I've had her on Adequan she has done a great turn around. I ride her all the time. Once in a while she will have a little trouble with one leg. Wonderful product!"

"Adequan is typically the "gold standard" for joint issues. However, for my 18 year old Appendix horse, it did not help. She has arthritic hocks and my vet was extremely hopeful that Adequan would be the ticket for her. She received the 7 injection series. I did 1 injection every 4 days exactly as recommended. I plan to continue doing a monthly injection though as my vet said to keep going with this for about a year to really know if it will help. I plan to do another 7 injection series in about 6 months and I will continue with the monthly injections as well. It certainly can't hurt, and perhaps she is just so severely arthritic that it will take more time. Given that this works for 99% of horses of it's used on, I really hate giving it a bad review. I absolutely would not hesitate to try this again on other horses. For whatever reason, this particular horse just did not respond to the 7 injection series. She has responded however to a daily dose of Equioxx and became sound with that drug. I decided to go that route when she went sound after 2 doses of Banamine for an inflamed eye."

"I know this product is pricey, however; i truely believe that this has made a huge difference in my horses' movement. I bought him with some serious chiro back/neck issues. I have been using this product for roughly 2 years and my horse has been much happier and sounder over all. I have also noticed that he is becoming less stiff and more sound between his injections. At this point he could probably come off of Adequan completly but since he is an eventer I keep him on it to keep his joints extra happy."

"I had my 14 yr old TB on Adequan for a few months last year, once it was on backorder I stopped giving it, then just forgot to re-order, and this and that happened and he went off it for about 8 months. Once the cold of the winter hit, he started refusing jumps, moving very stiffly, and we were having trouble collecting and going into upward transitions. I finally got him back on Adequan recently and WOW- what a huge difference it has made. He's so much more eager and willing to move out for me- even on those colder winter days. Even when he starts stiff, he works out of it much more quickly now. He's never going off Adequan again! Only complaint is the price- but I can't complain about the product!"

"I had my horse on this due to sacroiliac joint disease (damage to his pelvic area from falling and flipping, thanks to inept handlers.) When supplies of Adequan went short, I decided to see how he'd go without it. I put him on Prevacox instead, which reduces inflammation and eases pain. My horse is not in pain, but all kinds of problems have cropped up. His leg drops out (the original symptom), his hocks are hurting and his front knee is hurting. He is utterly incapable of canter anymore. Even his back is hurting, probably from working to evade other pain points. We are going back on Adequan for life."

"Helpful staff, quick shipping, reasonable price. My vet recommended Adequan after an exam for a sore shoulder (injury) and arthritic knee (chronic). It definitely helped his comfort and mobility. The shoulder has healed but I will continue to use Adequan for his knee."

"I started using Adequan IM over two years ago on my OTTB that has a bad ankle. Once you go through the first month of "loading," it's less expensive overall than oral joint supplements, and you KNOW it's going into his system. He has had ZERO sign of arthritis since I started using this product! Giving the injection is also simple, quick and only once per month with no messy bags that need to be made."

"My horse is an ottb, so he has a mildly bad hock and a moderately bad hock. We got both injected and were recommended this product by the vet, and with the yearly dose of 7 injections when he gets stiff in the winter (we don't do the monthly maintenance) he has been very sound and hasn't showed signs of discomfort or needing his hocks injected again! I think this product is the reason my horse has gone almost four years since his hock injections and still has no sign of needing them again soon. AWESOME product, well worth the money!!!"
