"I was looking for a low cost schooling boot and was considering synthetic but when I stumbled upon these boots at one of SmartPak's incredible sales (I paid only $50.00), I felt compelled to order them and was not disappointed.
Now, taking into consideration the price I paid, I felt fortunate that the leather on these boots can rival any high end boots but there are a few details that if re-designed could bring this boot up to "contender" status. For one, as many others have said, those ankles are a tight squeeze and coupled with a zipper that definitely does not go down far enough, you better be commited to a lengthy break-in time or you will be visiting your local foot doctor sooner than later. I also agree with yet another reviewer that said she wished the boots had conventional laces rather than elastic laces; well, that's true because if so, that would increase the comfort level and make "break in" time easier and shorter.
The Der Dau boot stretcher and the conditioner are products that will help you get these boots well on their way to becoming your favorites. And, for those of you who are having trouble slipping your foot into the boots, place a grocery store plastic bag on your foot, it will slide right in and then you can easily rip them off before you zip them up!
Lastly, aside from the extra time you should devote to getting these boots comfy, they are gorgeous to look at and to touch and even though the calfskin seems like it wouldn't be durable, it wears very well and looks like new with each cleaning. Moreover, the contour of the boot hugs the calf and makes the leg look long and lean and even though there were a few "rough" spots I would buy these boots again - even at full price!"

"This is my first pair of English boots... I don't know much about them but these are nice! They fit snug - but I ordered them half a size small as suggested. I agree - they run maybe just a little big. They're breaking in very well - I haven't gotten to ride in them yet -(weather) but hopefully soon!"

"I still LOVE LOVE LOVE these boots!!! They have broken in really well and are super comfortable. They were a bit tall when I first got them, but they fell, and now they fit like they were made for me. Super great boots, one of those great buys that shows you don't ALWAYS have to pay a ton of money to get a great product."

"I haven't bought new tall boots in a long, long time. So, I am a much diferent fit now. These boots fit my wide calf like they were made for me. I have a wide, short calf so, the height was a little tall but after a few rides they have fallen nicely; and my blisters will heal. I would definitely recommend these boots, great quality for not a lot of money. The zipper seems really durable so far, and, I LOVE that they are fully lined in leather, almost none are at this price range!"

"they are good boots to get in a pinch but the zipper gave me problems... both times. iv had 2 pairs of these and while the leather is up to par the zipper broke at my first show with them... both times. i didnt expect much and have since had them both fixed but i will be investing in a more high end boot from now on. also, i wound up having to walk around a large show ground (the hampton classic) for hours with them on and my ankles did have deep cuts. be aware they need to be REALLY broken in.
foot size is a little large but nothing too bad and the "padded" inner calf is very nice actually.
for the price no one should complain that much but it could be better."

"I shopped for tall field boots everywhere! These were as close as I can get to my measurements without custom. I am very pleased with these boots. While the mid-calf fit was snug the first try, after wearing them around the house a few times, they are more comfortable. They are true to measurements as written. They are a bit large in the upped calf, but I assume that is just my leg. Love to deal with Smartpak. Great company."

"I bought these boots at my local tack store but I figured Id write a review on SmartPak! I really like them! They're durable and and comfortable. The only problem is they KILL my ankles! :/ I cant walk in them zipped all the way up, I have to zip them at the mounting block right before I get on my horse! After I ride I can walk in them.. The foot part runs a tad small.. I'm normally an 8.5-9 but I ended up getting a 10!"

"I was super excited when I got these boots. I had been looking everywhere for boots that could fit my "shoe size-leg length-calf width" ratio. I took a chance and asked SmartPak customer service for advice. The were super helpful and even measured these boots for me to ensure that they would be tall enough.
They were right. The boots fit perfectly and they were comfortable to walk in from day one. Unfortunately, they were not equally comfortable to ride in. However, they are not worse than any other new boots.
What made me really disappointed though was that the zipper on one of the boots broke the forth time I put them one. I really did not expect that to happen. They seemed to be of good quality and all other YKK zippers I have had have hold up great. Unfortunately for me this happen half way through a Horse Show which of course made it even more annoying.
I really wanted these boots to work. I liked everything about them...until the forth day when the zipper split.
Even though I can't wear my boots anymore, I would actually recommend these boots to others. I hope that I was just very unlucky with my pair. They look great, are comfortable, and YKK zippers are usually quality zippers that last forever."

"These boots have a weird fit, one pair i bought was way to small, while the next were way too big. Also the zipper doesn't go down low enough so they are hard to put on and take off. I would not recommend these boots, my ariats were way better."

"You get what you pay for! These boots fit very comfortably and look very professional; soft, high-quality and supple leather. I can spend 7-hour work days at the barn in them (LOTS of walking) with very few blisters. They don't make my feet sore and don't cut off circulation."

"I had bought a pair of old, stiff tall boots on consignment for $20. They gave me the worst blisters (even though they were broken in) and just didn't fit right. I used them for my first year of showing and they we fine, just very uncomfortable.

I purchased these same boots at a local tack shop. I was shopping for a new hunt coat, and wasn't even thinking about trying on boots. I looked at them on the wall and said "Those are the boots I've wanted!!" I tried them on and fell in love. They were rediculously soft and comfy, I ended up buying them (and they were on sale).
They are amazing. And they are so comfortable I perfer riding in them to paddock boots and 1/2 chaps! The first time I wore them riding, my leg was slipping a lot on my saddle, and my trainer reccomended the leather grip. It worked so well, I was so happy! It even made me ride a little better I think.
Over all these are great boots, and I would compare them to the higher end Ariats, but for much less money!!! Happy boot shopping :)"

"Its been a life long struggle to find tall boots that i could bring into a AA show ring. I always had to spend thousands on customs... FINALLY something that fits better then customs. The leather quality is amazing! Makes Ariats look like plastic! Broken in after two ride and just molded to my feet. Like wearing slippers. My only complaint is They wear our quick because the leather is so soft. But any boot would do that when your riding 5 horses a day, 7 days a week :).. Over all, my high expectations were met and then some. The price and comfort is the best part about these boots!!"

"It was great to find boots that actually had the right measurements on the chart, but these are extremely hard to get my high-arched feet into and out of. I am still breaking them in, and they do get easier, but I would dearly love to be able to adjust the laces to accommodate the top of my feet. A great "how to" on care of zippers was enclosed and it is helpful, but I can't get into these without stressing the bottom of the zipper--big time--even with a good shoehorn. I'd tried on many at stores, and never had this much trouble. Guess I sacrificed for the calf. Since I can't adjust the laces, I've considered cutting out the non-adjustable ones and putting in adjustable ones but why should I have to do that with the price I paid for these?"

"I ordered these boots because I thought I had FINALLY found wide tall boots with the features I wanted (calf skin, Spanish top, etc). I have an 11 sized foot and a 17.5+ sized calf, and it is really hard to find tall boots that fit without them being $1000 custom ones!
When I got them in the mail and tired them on they were just a 1/4inch to small in the calf! But over all I really did like the quality of the boot, super bummed that they didn't fit.
I was also very pleased with SmartPaks customer service! They were very friendly and willing to help me return the boots and get me my refund just a couple days later....I will be using SmarkPak for my future purchases."
