"I got this helmet to replace my Charles Owen AYR8, which I love, but which--after only 9 months--is now too big! I got this helmet one size smaller than my AYR8 in the long oval size and it fits really well. Just tight enough and very comfortable. I'm not even really aware of it when it's on. I've only been riding in it in the winter so far (it's 20 degrees today) so I haven't been able to take advantage of its cooling properties yet, but if it can help my head not sweat so much in the summer, I will be a happy girl! My only two quibbles are the price and the look. Having only had the Charles Owen helmets, I like that look better and probably would rather have this as my comfortable and cool schooling helmet and get something else for shows. It also seems expensive to me. I got a great deal, so was happy, but I wouldn't have paid full price."

"The IRH Elite Ultra is a really nice helmet and seems like it would be really cool. I held it in front of a fan and could feel a decent amount of air going through it. It was also fairly light weight and seemed well made. Unfortunately it isn't shaped for my head. I could get a good fit front to back but it had gaps at the sides (even in the long oval size, the regular was even worse). Rating would have been 5 stars had it fit my head. Went back to a Charles Owen instead since they fit my head shape (ended up having to spend more too for it)."

"This helmet is extremely comfortable, it looks great(it doesn't make your head look like a mushroom when you wear it), and the quality is high. I had no problems with this helmet, just a tip to give to buyers, when you are choosing a size for your helmet they will tell you to get a size larger, but don't because when I did this it ended up to be slightly loose, so just get your exact size, other wise great helmet, you wont be sorry."

"Tried multiple helmets but none fit comfortably. The long Oval fits perfectly and comfortably. SmartPak equine was incredibly helpful to get the correct fit by allowing us to purchase two sizes and return the one that did not fit as well for a full refund. Great helmet and above all great service from SmartPak."

"My old GPA helmet has passed the 5 year mark and though it's never been in a fall, it has served it's time well and been ridden through blazing sun, freezing cold, pouring rain and spent many hours in a stuffy, dark tack trunk in between. All these things add up to a helmet needing to be replaced and though I would have liked to buy another GPA, the price has moved out of my headgear budget. So after much consideration I chose the IRH Elite Ultra Helmet. What a great helmet! I ordered the same size as my old helmet and it fit right out of the box. The leather harness will need to break-in and soften but with all the riding I do that shouldn't take long. I like that it has removable sweat pads (something I wished my old GPA had) and lots of ventilation. This is a good looking helmet and worth the money!"

"I got this helmet to replace my other IRH and it was the best purchase I've made this year. The fit is great, though I did go with a size smaller. The design and shape are very flattering and stylish. Also the brim is alot more sturdy than previous models (my old brim was starting to break and fall off). The ventilation is great! much better than the older model and the wicking strip is removable and washable so my helmet won't get funky. LOVE all the features :)"

"After I thought I was stuck with this helmet I called and was able to send it back. I then tried the long oval and it still wobbled and actually fell off my head with the harness on and tightened pretty darn tight! I sent that one back also and upgraded to the CO centennial version ayr8, trust me for another 84 dollars go with the Charles Owen."

"I ordered this helmet since many people I know love them and we all wear the same helmet size and shape. I ordered my normal size and tried it one a few times to ride in (since sometimes the padding does have to settle a bit) and since it is sweaty I am stuck with it. The helmet is WAY TOO BIG! I mean WAYYYY TOO BIG! The first time I rode it moved a tad and I put an extra pad in to help, the second time it moved more the third even MORE! So now it is sitting in my tack room since it has been used I can't send it back..sigh, I will never buy this brand again."

"I ordered this helmet due to being tired of the plastic, adjustable piece in my other helmet. I ordered this helmet exact to my size, (not one size up as recommended) and it fit perfectly. Beautiful, soft leather and high quality. Chin strap has a velcro piece which can be irritating if worn on the wrong side. Vents really do work. Love my new helmet."

"I was nervous about spending so much on a helmet, but I was tired of having to remove the plastic adjustable parts on less expensive models and wanted something that fit without dials. This helmet does fit, has a nicer profile, and is attractive in the leather.
I bought it a little snug (I am between sizes) since I was told it would loosen up with wearing. Even so, it was comfortable from the first ride."

"I'm not sure why the description recommends going up a size. I found just the opposite to be true, at least in the Long Oval; I had to go a size DOWN. I normally wear a 7 1/8 LO in hats, but need a 7 LO (or even a 6 7/8 LO) in this helmet.
Anyway, I LOVE the leather skin. I ride more 'westerny' so the brown leather goes well with my tack, chaps etc. Haven't had a chance to ride in the hot summer with this helmet yet - fingers crossed that the vents will be adequate. I found the helmet to be lightweight even with the leather. I had a bit of sticker shock at the cost - would have dropped down to the less expensive Ultra helmet if it came in brown. But I figure an intact head is priceless and the helmet cost no more than a nice saddle pad. The reason I didn't give it five stars is because when I pulled out the removable liner, the permanent liner it was attached to pulled away from the helmet because the glue let go."

"I was looking for a helmet with lots of ventilation when I came across this one. I figured I would give it a try since it seemed to be everything I wanted in a helmet, but was a bit pricy. When it arrived I fell in love!! It is so comfortable and the ventilation is an amazing feature. Also, I love how the helmet is almost all leather, so it is extremely easy to keep clean unlike the velvet or fabric covered helmets. I've only been using this helmet for a short amount of time, but I can tell that it's high quality and will last for many years to come."
