"Love these half chaps! They fit perfectly and appear to be great quality leather. I had quit wearing half chaps because the ones that I had were such a pain to zip and then just were not that nice looking on. No More! These are so nice and comfortable, super easy to zip AND look super! I only listed a 4 for durability because I have only worn the chaps once and do not know about the long term durability. I expect them to be very durable just as my Tredstep boots are!
The sales price makes this a super buy! Thank you for another super deal on a quality product SmartPak!!"

"I bought these cause they were cheap in price and I figured I would give them a shot. These are my first pair of half chaps and I love them. I read some of the other reviews and wasn't sure about how they would hold up or the fit of them. When I tried them on the fit true to the measurements. I have had them about a month and I am really rough on boots and they have lasted thus far. Very happy with my purchase"

"I got these as a cheap fix because my calves outgrew my other half chaps. The looked very nice in the picture, however, I just hate wearing them. They are almost straight up and down, with no tuck in for the ankle. I look like my lower leg is a little log. I can't really comment on durability for the simple reason that I only wore them for a few rides before I was fed up with them. Trust me, it's worth a couple extra bucks to go get some real leather."

"After reading all the reviews on this product, I wa so hesitant to order my "normal size". After having purchased some Ariat half chaps fairly recently, only to find they simply would not zip over my Tredstep Giotto paddocks, I took a chance and tried these. Originally, I wanted to order the leather Tredstep $150 pair, but one of the reviews said they would not fit over the Tredstep Giotto paddock. Very glad I read that review! Didn't necessarily want synthetic leather either.....but.....THEY FIT. And they fit over my Tredstep paddock boots, and look good too. YAY! Can't speak to durability, but the quality looks decent. They are nice-looking. One of my friends noticed them and when I told her they were synthetic, she was surprised. I have set them aside for our schooling show next week. After that I will test their durability by using them for schooling as well. They are very easy to clean. One more thing: I did not buy them super tight. They are probably 1/8" too large, but if I'd gotten them smaller, they would not have fit over my boots I bet. They do not look baggy or bulky however. They will also fit over my winter breeches."

"These are my first pair of half chaps. I really like them so far, but I have only had them about two months, however, they do seem durable. My leg measured 15.5 around and 18.5 tall, and based on other reviews about sizing, I ordered a 15/18. They were a little tight at first, but now fit well. The snaps over the top and the bottom of the zippers are nice, but I don't snap the bottom snap because it is so hard to get unsnapped! I am afraid it will pull out of the material if I continue to snap it. That's why I gave 4 stars for quality. And for value, I think they are a little pricy for synthetic leather. When I ordered, I didn't read close enough to see that they are in fact synthetic, but I decided to keep them anyway because I didn't see any other ones that looked as nice. They do make my legs sweat! I don't really notice it when I am riding, and they work well with my Ariat Heritage boots."

"This is my first pair of half chaps but I've been very pleased. I opted for the synthetic leather chaps over leather or suede as I wanted something durable that would hopefully be able to hold up to all of the horse sweat, dirt and day to day grime encountered at the barn and because they had the zipper on the outside of my leg. Not sure I like the idea of trying to flex my leg with the zipper running down the back of my calf or having it on the inside scratching up my saddle. Upon receiving these chaps I was very pleased by their appearance and glad to see a very heavy duty zipper. The first time on was difficult and took an extra set of hands but I wore them around for the better part of a day and they've been perfect ever since. I did notice that there is a section of the zipper (that has to go over the widest part of my calf) where i can see the glue that holds the "leather" piping down when I have them on, I assume that it is giving in this section to accommodate my calfs. But so far no problems and I am very happy!"

"Love these chaps. It took me a couple times to get the fit right, but I'm happy now. I'm a little worried that they will stretch out too much, but oh well. I have awkward calves!
These are really comfortable and easy to clean. When I'm riding my greenies I use sticky spray sometimes, and it came right off these chaps (it didn't on my old ones).
Treadstep is pretty consistent with the quality of all their products - boots, paddock boots, chaps, etc.
I will have to see if these will last awhile, but they are worth it currently

"These chaps are absolutely beautiful, and the way that they hug the leg offers wonderful support. I wear them, in and out of the saddle, for hours at a time, and am very happy. They are still quite tight and hard to zip, but once they're on, they feel great."

"I just started wearing these, so the "durability" is still up for review. But by the looks of them they look like they will hold up to me as I REALLY wear out 1/2 chaps! They fit tight, so you'll need help the first couple of wearings, but worth the battle to get them on! They look great, feel great and ride great. Better fitting than the more expensive leather ones."

"I've been wearing my 10 years old pair of Ariat field boots at the barn for a while now, but they are finally on their last leg and I wanted a nice pair of half chaps. After reading reviews I went with these Tredstep ones and could not be happier! They look and feel great and were reasonably priced! I measured between XS and S in the calf so I went with the Tall XS size. The first couple times they were a little tough to get on, but after a couple weeks of use they stretched out nicely and fit perfectly! Very happy with my purchase, as they seem like they will last for a good while."

"I have a very large calf, and it was been difficult zipping them up because the stretch material doesn't give as easily as the half chaps with the elastic panels. But they don't feel too tight once they are on. However, it is a hassle to get them over my thick winter breeches.
My lower leg is 15.5" high so I never know whether to order up or down. I ordered a 15" and it is a little short - I have a feeling that the 16" would have been better but I didn't want to return them and they are fine for schooling. I'll wear them for 5hrs+ and they are very comfortable. I also like how the inside of the calf is smooth - no extra stitching or patches to rub the saddle.
After 3 months, the zipper has started to separate from the material at the top - looks like the glue is coming undone. There is no pressure on the upper part of my calf, so I'm not sure why it would do this.
Overall, the next time I will go back to the elastic panel"

"I wanted a second pair of half-chaps to have on hand, that look nice and fit well. These do the job. I ordered a 14/17 and they aren't as tall as I'd expected and aren't as snug as I expected. I wouldn't say they were a full size shorter/bigger than what I wanted, more like a half-size. They don't feel like leather but do look like it. And they clean up really well. They still look brand new and I ride multiple horses per day, every day of the week."

"These half chaps are synthetic!? What!? Honest to Batman, I had no clue these were synthetic when I ordered them. I figured they were just cheaper leather — but certainly not synthetic material. Even when they arrived at my house, a perfect fit for my enormously tall, obnoxiously thin calves (I had no issue with the 'bulky' ankles. And I have thin ankles!) and they broke in and conformed perfectly to my legs within one ride. I'm not exaggerating, by any means, these half chaps are that great! They are so durable, even after 2 months of daily use and barn chores, they look brand new. They really act like real leather. I clean them with Effax & Passier ledarbalsam every once in a while, and they take the product like real leather. With each cleaning, they become even more supple and no bleeding dye. I'll be buying more of these half chaps!"

"Okay so I may be over exaggerating here but I will tell you this. These half chaps are unbelievable. They conform to your leg, break in by 2 rides, clean up very nice and easily, are very sleek, don't rub off all over the saddle, and boy do they keep up with me in this heat! They match well, keep cool and are beautiful. To be honest, I can't say enough good things about these chaps. I give 5 stars because these deserve an honest 5 stars. I'm very pleased with this product for its price. Thanks Smartpak and Tredstep for such a beautiful leather masterpiece."
