Freedom Feeder Small Hole Hay Net

Please note: As with all hay nets, the Freedom Feeder should be hung at a sufficient height to avoid the risk of entanglement. To withstand the pulling and chewing associated with a hay net in use, the nylon mesh is extremely durable and will not give under pressure. As a result, it?s important to ensure the hay net is safely secured and won?t become loose as the hay is consumed.

"I have a SUPER easy keeper Missouri Fox Trotter. This slows down her eating and so keeps her satisfied with her allotted hay. Before she would take a huge mouthful of hay, now she can't do that!"

"My 2 older horses started using the net the first night with no problems. I did put out extra hay to make sure the could pick where to eat & with in 3 days they had no problems eating from the small holes. I did have to change how it hangs in order to get it to fit in the corner (I have the medium size net) and I will be buying another net for the other stall."

"I thought this hay net was a little pricey, but after 2 weeks of abuse is holding up great. I fill the bag with grass hay to allow the horses to "graze" all day (I don't know if I will ever use it for all of the hay unless traveling) The horses seem to prefer eating out of the net over cleaning up scraps on the ground which I found surprising. Overall a great purchase I highly recommend. (In addition the company assures the quality of their product and will replace the net if it rips)"

"I bought this for my TB mare so that she would slow down her eating and stretch her hay portion out for the entire evening in her stall. This hay net is doing exactly that! And she is not so crabby in the morning when I come to feed. The net is sturdier than it looks and is easy to fill because it has a large opening. I bought the mini which holds about 4 flakes. The only downside is that it is expensive."

"I purchased the slow feed hay net to keep my horses from using the hay for bedding. I initially purchased 1 of the small hay nets to use for my little gelding. Normally well mannered and quiet, he would fight with the hay net and try to tear it up. It has withstood his abuse very well. I now have 2 of the small hay nets and 2 of the large ones. Not only have they kept my horses from wasting their hay, but it has made a huge difference in cleaning the stalls. I wish I had bought just the large nets as I work 3 -13 hour days and the large nets hold enough hay to last the horses that use them 3-5 days! This has been a huge help in speeding up my twice daily routine. The horses are on round bales when turned out so between the round bales and the slow feed hay nets, I know my horses are getting all the hay they need."

"When I bought this hay net, I wanted to try the slow-feeder feeding concept. I did not think that my horse and I would actually become hooked on it. My guy cribs and had ulcers. He endured much stress (5 gas colics and three moves!) before I was able to locate a barn that offered what we needed. He was still grumpy and had occasional upset tummy. Training, products, and supplements did not work in the long run. Enter the slow-feeder hay nets. The instructions that come with the nets are very good. At first my horse ate a lot of hay but now only consumes about 4 or 4 1/2 flakes a day. He chooses to eat from the net over loose flakes on the ground. It really helps him when he stresses, as he knows there is always hay for him to go to. He does not get frantic at feeding time. The way he picks the hay from the net seems to satisfy his constant need to chew on things. While nothing will cure his cribbing (though his Miracle Collar deserves a great review as well!), using the nets really helps his stomach, his need to chew and chomp things, and calms him when the barn gets very heavy traffic and machinery. I bought both size nets, two large and one small. They are holding up well to my horse's constant pulling and biting, with no fraying. I like the large more, as you can put just a little or a lot of hay in it. I fit in up to 6 large flakes at one time! The guys who feed at the barn just hook up a new one when he needs it, before the old one is empty. I do not like the hooks supplied to close it, so I use instead a large swivel-closure hook and loop the rim loops of the net on it, every fifth one, and close the hook off. This keeps it neatly closed at the top. Then the guys just grab it and hook it on a snap already hanging on the fence with strong twine. I will keep using these nets!!"

"Freedom hay feeders are great when used as intended. The use of these really help eliminate waste when used for a horse in a box stall, reduces bad habits caused by boredom, and slows down a greedy eater. The larger bags are easier to load with hay. The caribiners are somewhat whimpy and may need to be replaced but this system of feeding is worth it!"

"I bought 3 of the Freedom Feeder Small Hall Hay Nets - one for each of my horses. I love the fact that I can fill them and my horses now have hay in their stalls from the time they come in until the next morning. They have worked very well and the horses seem to enjoy having something to do. Great purchase and with the price of hay - no wasted hay!"

"I use the Nibble Nets in my stalls, they seem a bit sturdier but love using the Freedom Feeder Nets in the pasture. They hold larger amounts of hay and several horses can feed from them at one time. The small holes slow the horses down more so their hay will last longer which is great since we have had a drought this year and there is nothing for them to eat or do without the nets. Much better for them than standing around for hours waiting for me to get home."

"I have a hard keeper Thoroughbred, and needed something to allow him to eat all day but help reduce boredom. Somewhat easy to fill compared to similar products. I was skeptical that my horse would just tear holes in it from reading the other reviews but its lasted months with no sign to damage. Will be buying one for all more horses!"

"The bags are well constructed and hold just the right amount to keep our pastured horses occupied. I am hoping that the bags will fend off winter boredom and chewing on fences. My only complaint is the small aluminum rings that are supplied. Many have broken already and I will need to replace with more sturdy rings."

"Bought two of these - one to make sure our hard keeper OTTB has hay to nibble all night once he finishes his 'dinner' and one for the easy keeper pony to make his small amount of hay last longer. I like the square shape and the breakaway hanging clips."

"I have great grass hay, and needed to cut back on amount daily, as I needed to watch that they didnt get overweight. I wanted to keep them busy with less hay and the Freedom hay net works great! One is a 2 yr old 16.2h WB gelding and the other is an 11 yr old 17h TB. It has held up wonderfully for both horses. One clip broke but that is all. It absolutely solved the problem of them eating their hay quickly and then having none and being bored. They would both rather eat it out of the net, then on the floor like they used to. As I am filling the bag, they are grabbing it out! I am going to order another for a horse I have coming home for the winter. They work and I havent had any problems."

"clearly slow feeders are the way to go with horses. especially horses with ulcers. the caribeners broke immediately and i replaced with double ended snaps. my horse tore so many holes in it i had to turn it and i have so much hay string holding the holes together! the net is made of a way to flimsy material. i just ordered a nibble hay net. the quality looks better. i did contact freedom feeder and asked if they could make a much heavier duty net!"

"I've been using two of the large hay bags in 2 stalls since early spring, >6 months. These bags are not holding up to daily use. At this point there is more twine holding them together than the original cording. The Feeder is a great original concept. The material they are made out of is CHEAP. Save your money until the company comes up with a better netting material; once they have a better netting they will have a gold mine!"

"It's a little too soon to tell, but so far this product is working great. The horses are out on grass most of the time, so they have not really started using it much, but I did see them nibble on it some. It has worked great for the goats, tho! A lot less waste! They have been using it for a month and have not damaged it. It's easy to fill and the clasps are sufficient so there are no gaps in the closure."

"We are near the VA coast and had high howling winds and more than 12 inches of rain during Hurricane Irene. Even my yearling was busy with her hay...attached is a photo of her all "bagged" up with 2 of the small bags to last all night. The 2 large bags I bought were in the older horses stalls and kept them contently munching thoughout the storm. They are all so much quieter with the freedsom feeders...the stalls are easier to clean and the horses are not wasting their expensive hay. The Freedom Feeders have made life much easier for me and my horses love them...I highly recommend the freedom feeders!"
