I ordered this coat in XXl which was a big mistake as it is HUGE! I probably could have got a medium lol I could not exchange it as it was a sale item and smartpak had run out of smaller sizes. It is very warm so I will keep it for wearing to do chores in the winter. I could not imagine riding in it because its quite heavy and bulky but it does have an inner coat and flap straps to make it suitable for riding. I got it in the sale so it was excellent value. Its not terribly flattering, prob partly because its so big - I look like I am wearing a sleeping bag, but warm it certainly is!

Very nice jacket. I love the reflective piping, and the ability to ride in this jacket. It keeps my legs much warmer when I ride! :) The one thing I could do without, would be the fur on the hood... I am not big for fur on coats, whether it is fake or real.. Great coat!

We have been having some pretty cold mornings, this
coat was just the answer. I have been riding in it while
doing my flat work in the arena as well as out on the hilly trails. It fits great. Keeps you warm and sytlish
to wear away from the barn.

I eyed this coat in a few catalogs and when I saw it on sale, I jumped on it. I like that it's warm and waterproof. It fits me pretty well and I can still wear a sweater under it. The long vent in the back for riding can be closed so it doesn't flap open when walking. I doubt that I'll ride in it--It's almost too nice to take to the barn. I'm looking forward to cold, wet weather so I can actually wear it outside. The one minor downside is that it's quite heavy, like a wool coat. I thought it would be light like a down-type jacket but once it's on, it's not too bad.

I'm so surprised this went on sale. It's a great coat. It's well made, functional (even an inner pocket for you iPod w/an opening for your earphones), very pretty, super warm, & comfortable to ride in. I'm usually between a medium & small in jackets & the small was perfect. I read reviews about the hood being small & the zipper tough, but I didn't have any issues w/either. In fact I have really long hair & the hood covers me well w/plenty of room, even w/my hair tied up. This was a great purchase. Thank you, Smartpak!

I wear a medium usually, but made the mistake of following review advice thus buying the small. Smartpak took the small back without a problem and sent me the medium. It is an excellent fit. The coat is perfect for barn, riding and even going to the job on cold days. It is a beautiful coat with only one very tiny negative - the hood - it needs a redesign - it could have had hook and loop or pull to fit the head and neck instead it hangs and falls off the head. Remember, that is minor compared to the lovely coat!

This coat is the best coat I have ever had...I dont even feel the cold! My body stays so warm and toasty. I have been at the barn all day on a saturday, from 9-5 and have been outside in 20° weather and barely even noticed it was cold out! If only they made boots and gloves this well!

I've been wearing the coat for only a couple of weeks now. I find it very comfortable and warm. I like the thumb holes in the lining although I can't use them with gloves. The reflective lines work great according to my neighbors who saw me walking down the street - I was glowing.

I'm pretty happy with this purchase. It's very warm and comfy, "like wearing a sleeping bag" someone said, and I agree. Love the concept of the back vent and the velcro bands to attach around the thighs for riding. The pockets are roomy. Reasons it's not 5 stars: the fit is way off, I normally wear XL tops or sometimes L, and ordered this in M based on previous reviews. It fits. (Thanks, reviewers!) The faux fur collar is kind of cheap-looking faux fur. The double zip: I am glad it does have a double zip, that's obviously important in a coat this long, but the dang thing is super tough to manage. In fact, sometimes I just leave it partially zipped and step in & out of it like a dress, to avoid having to deal with starting that dadgum zipper. It would be nice if the coat came in, say, a silvery-gray color rather than black, because of road salt. I always have salt from the car all over my coats & jackets all winter, and black is not such a great color choice for this kind of coat, in my opinion... though this fabric does brush off pretty easily.

Rhis is a great coat for winter barn work! Only two issues: runs very large and zipper should be replaced with a heavy duty version. Otherwise great buy and would definitely recommend.

I wore this riding outside this morning in Kensington, NH, 18* with a wind chill below 10*. I was warm and comfortable my whole ride. The straps kept it around my legs well in the wind and kept my back covered too. It runs big but I prefer it bigger to ride in, gives me room to move around. I walk the dogs at night in it, snow-blow in it. It's like wearing a sleeping bag. I absolutely love this jacket.

PROS: This is a great winter coat for everyday and for riding. The back has snaps which you can undo and there are straps that you can attach around your legs so that you can wear it when you're in the saddle. The sleeves have cuffs with thumb holes which I also really like. It is not overly heavy or bulky (Not as warm as my 600 fill Northface--but I have yet to feel cold in it). So far I've warn in it in temps down to 20°F and have been plenty warm enough.
CONS: The sizing is WAY off. I am normally a large or extra large in riding clothes (about a size 14) and I was lucky enough to try this on in the Smartpak retail store so I ended up getting a SMALL that fits perfectly. Also the filling is coming out in the sleeves in little pills but it's not too bad.
I bought this on sale and feel like I got a great bargain. I really like the coat and would recommend it, but only on sale.

Unfortunately I had to get a medium because small was sold out and medium was too big so I had to return it! However, when I put this coat on at work (where I had it shipped) all of my co-workers absolutely loved it. And when I said it was too big, one co-worker wanted to buy it from me because she liked it so much. Unfortunately it was too small. I really hope Smartpak carries this coat again. I would order a size small in a heartbeat! It was the perfect length, had pockets inside and out and felt so light on!!

I got this coat as a Christmas present after noticing the fact that it splits and attaches around your legs for riding. Exercising horses in upstate NY outside, it's essential to be warm! This coat has certainly done the job, keeping me totally warm down past my knees, and the riding feature is fantastic.
The only drawback is I wish the zipper were a bit more heavy duty (I have to fiddle with it a bit) and the filling will come out a little under the arms and in other high friction areas. It does seem to be improving though, and I've been wearing it for a month. The hood, in windy weather, is useless, but so are most hoods in these coats I've found. (They need to create a bigger hood!)
Other than that, the coat is fabulously warm and I wouldn't have survived the blizzard this past weekend without it!

I've purchased two different ELT coats from Smarktpak -- both have impressed me with the quality of workmanship, materials, and style. I probably wouldn't splurge on them for full price, but on sale they are definately a value. I love that the sleeves are cut nice and long, and the coats have smart details throughout. The Arosa runs large, but my exchange was quick and worry-free.
