"The quality of materials, zippers, etc. is exceptional. I ordered this product a few times in different sizes, and found that it was a tough integration even with Ariat boots. Also, did not run exactly as the size chart says... which makes it tricky. If you can get them to fit they are awesome!"

"These are the best. Good looking and comfy. I use them with regular Ariat paddock boots so I did not find the problem with the spurs like I saw posted in other reviews. Not sure if they were wearing the Volant boots with them or not. But I am very satisfied. Will buy again."

"I bought a pair of these to go with my Volant boots, and the half chaps were clearly not designed to be worn with the boots. I've had a hard time finding a pair of half chaps to go over the boots since the ankle is so thick, but these are, by far, the worst I've tried! There is very little space in the elastic that goes under the foot, they wouldn't even come up to where they're supposed to sit.
And whose idea was it to make the zipper go up from the ankle? Terrible idea."

"I love the look of these chaps and I've always liked Ariat boots and other products. For me though there is just to much leather/material around the ankles. I ordered the medium because I have larger calves and the calf fit well but the ankle looked clunky and unrefined. I wish they used a more elastic material or a softer leather around the ankles to create a more custom, refined fit. Because of this they are uncomfortable so I sent them back."

"Like them a lot so far! Bought them way too tall and way too small, but in a relatively short period of time they have broken in and fallen just enough that they fit very well and I can zip them and buckle them with basically no discomfort. Good quality leather, and the zippers seem very durable.
The fit is killer, so I am not bothered by the fabric or the red interior, and people don't seem too offended. Glad I took the plunge and tried something different, I wear them with the tredstep paddock books."

"I don't know what ariat was thinking when they chose to make the chap zip up from the ankle. Despite this, I love these chaps. Supple leather that is very supportive. First chap I've purchased that is actually tall enough in the non tall sizing (not available in my size). Look great with the volant paddock boot."

"I purchased a Medium in these as I have another pair of Ariat half chaps in medium that fit perfectly. These were way too tall. Make sure you measure yourself.
I do have a few complaints on the fit. The leather is very thick and the ankle area too wide. This causes a bunching of the leather around the ankle that isn't very comfortable. I imagine with time it will soften.
The chaps also zip up in the back. It is a bit difficult to hook them and get the zipping started. I usually put my boots and things on standing up. These I need to sit down and do some yoga positions to get zipper started. Once started they are easy to get on.
Best thing about these is the look. They are super intense and awesome looking! Plus the inside is red leather! Sexy!"

"Ariat consistently delivers quality products and these chaps are no exception. They look super sharp. Other reviewers have complained about the fit, however I looked at the size chart and measured my leg and I fall right in the range for a medium and my mediums fit me. I wear an Ariat Full Tall field boot so maybe that helps. Remember, they're leather and they will 'drop' as they break in.
Only downside I think they might be a little toasty in the middle of summer because the leather is quite thick."

"Wanted these half chaps to work, but it's just not meant to be. Had to return a medium short (couldn't zip them up) for a large short, but the extra material ruined the look completely. If you have large calves, you may need to look elsewhere."

"I do enjoy riding in these half chaps. They are almost as grippy as my tall boots and they look great. I layer these chaps over my ariat paddock boots, and they are really tight around my ankles. It took about 4 days to break them in. The zipper in the back rubs my saddle if I don't set it just right. I would go for the volant zip boots next time."

"I just purchased these a week ago, after reading the reviews. It did take some effort to put them on the first time, but since then it has been no problem! There isn't much give in the foot/arch elastic, so I don't know how they will do over the long haul ... They will not fit over my Ariat Frostbiter paddock boots; but with regular Ariat paddock boots, perfect. The fit is more like a custom half chap; and to ride in them has been wonderful! The edgy look isn't bad either. If you are looking for a quality chap, these are worth trying! I think I want to try the Volant paddock boot now :)"

"I've owned many pairs of Ariat half chaps, and I purchased these as I liked the styling. The fit is quite different from any other Ariat half chap (I generally wear an XS and in this I needed a S - had to order and return several pair to find ones that fit properly). I also find the zippers to be extremely difficult to close. They close from the bottom to the top, and are difficult to get started. When zipped, the zippers go up the center of the back of the leg, and stop just under the fold of the knee, which is very uncomfortable while they're breaking in. Am hoping they'll be more comfortable once they break and and the leg breaks "down" some."
