Having a 12 year old with a woman's size foot and a very long, slender calf posed a HUGE problem with finding a boot that fit her properly. Not with the Donatello! I just couldn't bring myself to have boots custom made quite yet with her still growing. I was incredibly pleased with how well the boot fit! She is equally pleased with how comfortable it is and how easy it was to "break in." Solid boot for the price. As far as durability? We need to see how it holds up during the show season, but it appears to be made very well. If you asked me, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this boot again.

I do wear through boots- I ride 10+ horses a day and I am constantly on my feet. I was not looking for a show boot but I did want something that would hold up for home use. I was excited when I pulled them from the box, they fit quite well and looked decent. However, the next day the zipper broke. The zipper was replaced three times in the month that I used them but thats not all; these boots have spent several trips to the cobbler as I replaced stitching on the toe cap, where the zipper meets the boot, etc. The leather stretched a good bit- and within a few weeks they were too big, slipping and rubbing as I rode. Invest in a better quality boot- the repair costs alone will warrant it.

Received these boots on Wednesday, showed in them on Sunday. Broke in really well. They are comfortable and look good too. Great product for the money. I could never find boots off the shelf that fit me so I was really happy I didn't have to purchase another pair of custom boots. Would definitely recommend these. Just hope they hold up.

After hearing so many people raving about these boots I decided they would be an excellant replacements for the Devon Aires that never really fit me right. So glad that I went with these and will be looking to get a pair of the Raphaels sometime in the future.
I can't speak to durability as I've only ridden in these boots once, but the quality is great! I wear a size 8.5 in Ariat and got the 39s in these and would say the sizing is similar. My only complaint is that I wish these boots came in a slightly shorter height.

I absolutely love these boots! I have tried other brands, and these had MUCH nicer leather than boots twice the price! They were soft and supple right out of the box, and it was definitely love at first ride! The fit my calf and ankle perfectly, and my picky trainer commented on how nice they looked! The only thing that I will say is that they do scratch pretty easily. My mouthy horse bit the toe cap of one of my boots, and the leather came up a little. But, a little polish and they look as good as new! Also, one of my boot trees came with a hole in it, but the lovely customer service team sent me a replacement for free. Thanks Smartpak and Tredstep!

I out grew my old hunt boots due to strength and conditioning that increased my already large tibialis anterior muscle, and gave me a calf muscle that I didn't have before. I tried several different styles of boots, and could not find any that could accommodate my lower leg muscles without being overly large in the ankle and foot, and oddly short in height.
Another rider in the barn, who is also a soccer player with leg muscles, had these boots and she was kind enough to allow me to borrow them and I was instantly in love.
I ordered a pair, and just as all the other reviews state, they were comfortable out of the box. I did not get any blisters even on the first ride, and was able to ride for over an hour.
The only area that did rub, as with the other reviews, was the zipper at the back of the ankle when I walked but because they zip on and off so easily, it's really not a big issue to me and is fixable with a little thicker sock or a gel ankle wrap also sold by Smartpak.
And, again to repeat what other reviews said, I got complements on them the first time I showed in them and those who asked me about them were surprised that they weren't a custom boot, or were not several hundred dollars. They polish very nicely to a nice shine, which for me has been the difference between first and second place in the past. I did also add a little bit of zipper wax to the zippers to keep them zipping smoothly, (but I do this to my chaps as well as it keeps zippers from becoming problematic).
I highly recommend these boots if you like clean lines, and a nice mixing of traditional style, (tabs, no punched toe cap, Spanish top), and contemporary style, (slim ankle, no tie laces, zipper).

These could not be more perfect if they were custom made. They fit every curve of the leg from top to bottom. Comfortable from the first zip. I am very very pleased with the quality, styling, and comfort. I would definately buy these again in a heartbeat.

Very pleased with the quality and fit at this price point. I usually wear 7.5-8, so I went with the 8-8.5 and was perfectly happy with the fit from the first day; this ankle fits cleaner than any of my other tall boots. Wore them on a horse for the first time at a show and loved them on my first horse; rubbed the inside of my knee on my pony that I ride at a more acute knee angle. Now that I've ridden in them half a dozen times they are breaking in and dropping, and I am pleased to report no more rubs. Still a little "thicker" feel than my old well-worn pair, but I hope that means they'll stay durable. This is my first pair with an infamous back zipper, so I'll let you know how that holds up!

I really wanted these. They are beautiful and seem well made however the 9 1/2 - 10 were basically a 9 1/2 so I sent them back for an 11 since I am a perfect 10 and of course they were absolutely huge. I have a hard time understanding in this day and age of larger sized feet that a plain 10 is not available and so I gave only 3 star rating. I am really disappointed about that as well as a little mad. Also not everyone with a larger foot is model height. I am 5'6" and the boot height as a regular is super tall with about two inches too much height as well as lots of gather/wrinkles at the ankle starting out the gate so these are just way way too tall and again, why no choices in boot height? So, lucky if they fit you but so irritating that they have no size choices for the larger foot.

SmartPak's customer service is the reason I have these boots, and I LOVE them. The first time I tried them I was not impressed, however after a long chat with customer service, we decided to give them another shot in a different size. They are VERY nice boots for the price, and the people in my barn love them. The leather is super soft, so I am worried how they will hold up since I ride 5-6 horses a day, 4-5 days a week. In only two weeks the ankles had dropped. I still need the gel protectors, but the boots are SUPER comfy on my feet, which was a huge relief.
The only thing I would change is the height of the Spanish top. I wish it came up just a bit higher, but I have long legs. Overall I am VERY pleased, and only gave them a 4 for durability and quality because I've only had them for two and a half weeks.

My Ariat tall boots zipper broke the night before a big A rated horse show. So, the next morning, an hour before I had to show, we stopped at a tack shop and the first thing my dad says, "We need CHEAP, GOOD, tall boots fast." The sales person brings these out (I instantly got excited when I saw a tired step box because they are my favorite brand and I hope to be sponsored by them) and I instantly loved them! Driving to the show I was a little nervous because I have never had new boots, only good handed-down Ariats (already broken in). By the end of a long day, I felt great! There were no "infamous blisters" no cuts, NOTHING! Would never get any other boots and I love them to death (love them even more than my AYR8!)

I was hoping the 15 3/4" calves with some give would be enough to fit over my 16" calves, but no luck. Beautiful look, beautiful leather, just not quite big enough. I returned them for a pair of mountain horse boots as they run wider. It was definitely worth a try though since shipping is free both ways :)

These boots were very easy to break in and look like a custom fit. I have the smallest calves and was worried I would never find boots that fit well, but these do. I wore them for the first time at a cross country schooling and surprisingly had no blisters or rubs when I got home. I can not speak for durability as I have not worn them a lot, but I hope they last as they seem to be a great boot.

I have an extremely hard time fitting tall boots. I have very slim calves, so almost every boot I try on in slim is still too big. I tried these on and I knew these were the ones! I needed an extra slim calf and I never knew there was such thing! I have had these boots for about a few months and they are super durable. I ride 3x a week and do some work in them, and they show no wear and tear. I have not worn boot rubbers but found I don't really need too. I don't have any scuffs or scrapes at all. When I accidentally stepped in manure, it got stuck on the bottom of the boot and I had to get a hoof pick to scrape it off, but once it was off the grip was back to normal. If it is muddy and you are getting on, wipe the bottoms of your boots once they are on. If they don't have litte grains of wet sand the grip is outstanding. The boots shine up well and stay surprisingly clean. I always clean/condition and polish after every ride but some days they honestly don't look that bad. I use Supple Leather Cleaner/Conditioner followed by some black shoe polish you can find at the grocery store. Perfect combination! Just buff them after and voila! I was a little skeptical about the design at first. I wasn't too sure about the little panel for stretch near the zipper, but you can't even tell it's there! I love the tab with the Tredstep emblem on the side, it is elegant and classy. These boots look/feel way more expensive than they are, and they fit like customs. If you want a nice, durable pair of tall boots look no further! Tredstep Donatellos are perfect for schooling or show!

One of my least favorite things in riding is breaking in new tall boots. These boots are everything the description says they are! The breaking in period is minimal and you can actually flex your ankle when putting them on for the first time! Happy I purchased these.

I bought these as a back-up boot after the zipper blew on my Ariats. I was skeptical because of the price, but these boots are FANTASTIC. The fit was dead-on, and I have a hard-fit leg (I got the regular-full). The leather is a little soft so I worry about them wearing out, as I more or less live in my boots, but they are so incredibly comfortable. Only complaint was that they hurt my feet for the first few hours. Overall A+, feels like I am wearing custom boots AND are nice enough for me to feel comfortable wearing them on the A circuit! Highly recommend them!

These are my first pair of tall boots. I've read break in horror stories online including you have to wear boots in a bathtub and walk around in them until they are dry! Not with these! The leather is supple around the ankle and they were quick to drop. I've walked around in them 3 days for about a total of 3 hours. The picture is from putting them on day 3. The quality is very nice and I'm a huge leather snob. I needed a larger calf size (15.5) and these fit the bill. I measure a 16" height which would be pretty custom, but reviews prompted me to try the off the shelf of 39/Med/Regular. The foot size is great. I'm a size 8 in Ariat paddocks. The calf was very tight at first and it took midway through day 2 for it to loosen enough so I circulation again (hehe). The height is very high, but the heel lifts they come with sure helped and they are dropping well. I did order the Equifit lifts because they are taller and just put them in and like the higher lift for now. I'm exciting to finally try riding in them tomorrow as I can now pretty comfortably bend at my knee 90degrees. The price was right too. HAPPY!! And this 18" height boot fits PERFECTLY in the Kensington boot bag. :)

This is my first pair of tall boots so I searched the internet thoroughly before purchasing these. I've only had them about 3 weeks and love them! I've ridden in them maybe 6 times and they have dropped enough to make them the right height. I've used leather conditioner on them after each ride. I wipe them with a wet cloth first then the conditioner inside and out. It took about 3 rides for them to soften. Overall, I'm very satisfied with these boots and would definately buy another pair if and when it may be necessary.
