"Very disappointing results when I tried that bucket cozy inside the barn in Northern VA. The water in the protected bucket froze solid overnight, the same way the water in other "naked" bucket did. I have not sent it back yet as I kept doing several attempts but I really should send it back."

"Works wonderfully in a stall, haven't used it outside. We have a small barn that's a little drafty and the cozy works well!
Going to purchase a few more!

"It really does help keep the water from freezing even in our frigid central NY temperatures. However, you must have a non- mouthy horse!! Horse # 1 ripped it off his bucket, even without the top cover, in 24 hours!. Horse #2 is still using it with great results. I am trying to think of a way to cover it for horse # 1 so he can't remove and rip it."

"So this does work in temps down to teens/20's even without the cover on. It definitely has worked for a bucket inside of a stall and feels 100x safer than having an electric bucket. The only issue is if trying to use it on an outside bucket - if it gets wet it gets heavy/takes forever to try and then doesn't work. So for those days when it's in the teens and sleeting /"wintery mix" it can be a fail."

"I got two of these for my horse who lives in a barn outside. I was very afraid that his water would freeze solid during the night, as it has been a very cold winter so far! They work so well!!!! We don't even put on the tops, and most of the time there is not even an ice sheet on top! It only had an ice sheet on top when it would go below 0 degrees! I love them!"

"Good product. Keeps water buckets in the barn from freezing solid. I don't use the lid cover so mine occassionally will develop a very light layers of ice but nothing solid. Horse always has access to unfrozen water. I'm sure if I used the lid cover there would be no ice."

"I bought 2 for my stall and two for his paddock. When it gets below 30 degrees, I add hot water to both of his buckets outside and put the cover on and they are ice free in the morning. Yesterday it dropped down to about 12 degrees (4 degrees with wind chill) and with the hot water added the night before, there was only about 1/4 an inch to 1/2 inch of ice formed by the time I got there today (around 3pm.) So they lasted about 20 hours ice free! I definitely recommend using the cover, as it does improve it a lot. His stall buckets stay ice free but I do add a half bucket of hat water to both of them. Overall I definitely recommend them!"

"Normally I use heated water buckets in the barn for my horse. However, for some reason, my current boarding barn will not allow heated buckets. So I decided to try this "bucket cozy." I use it on nights when the temps get into the 20's. So far it has been doing its job. Even down to temps of 22 degrees at night, the five gallon bucket with the bucket cozy remains ice free, while the five gallon bucket hanging right next to it will have an impressive layer of ice on the top of the water. I have also never put the top on the cozy, I only use the lower portion. I only wish that these came configured to fit a "Better Bucket" since my gelding prefers to drink out of that style bucket better than a traditional five gallon flat backed bucket. But still I am happy that my horse will have ice free water to drink if he gets thirsty at night. This product would probably work nicely if you camped in freezing temps, to keep your horse's water from freezing. Overall, I think that this cozy is a wise investment in my horse's health."

"This product is fantastic. I purchased 2 for my small 2 stall home barn for my retired horses about a month ago. I was looking for a non electric solution to frozen buckets without the bulk and size of the "permanent" type. These are perfect for my needs. My horses are clean drinkers so I dont have to scrub my buckets often, mostly just dump and rinse daily so they are light and functional. At first I left half of the top cover portion on and they would not use them. I removed the tops, they use them and they have not frozen - I am in NJ. This week will be in single digets so I will try the tops again. Big word of advice - if below 15 I add hot water to top off at night check and they are perfect no freezing at all! If left all day they will freeze at night, just not solid. I keep two buckets in the stalls, one with the cozy one without. The product is expensive but does work as stated, if this is what you are looking for it is a good product."

"My guy requires two buckets of water, but I'm only allowed to have one electric heated bucket at my barn. I found this bucket cozy and decided to give it a try. Now that we've had some cold weather (below freezing), I've really been able to test it. The first few cold days we had, I did not add warm water. I was impressed to find that there was only a THIN layer of ice at top of his bucket. I've been adding warm water since, and have not had any ice form. Not even 24 hours later!
I do not have hot water access at the barn, so I've been using a portable water heater. It is a metal tube that you stick in the water bucket and plug it in. I have warm or hot water in 15-20 minutes. I just pour the water in his bucket (make sure it's not too hot!), and put the cozy bucket top back on. This might be a solution for those who don't want to or can't use a heated bucket, and also don't have hot water access. I usually fill up a fresh bucket of water and plug the heater in as soon as I get to the barn. It's nice and warm by the time I get done cleaning."

"When the temperatures dip and buckets freeze over, I want to ensure my horses maintain adequate water intake to help prevent colic, especially in my senior. If you prefer to forego the electric option as I do, these covers are a lifesaver. I only ordered one so I could try it out first, and it performed as promised. My only concern was whether covering the bucket with the lid would allow my horses to reach the bottom as the water level dropped, so haven't tried using that part yet, but will do so soon now that I've had favorable results. I will be adding another Cozy to my collection as I'm very pleased to have a non-electric option that will allow my horses access to drinking water all (freezing!) night and day long."

"I live in VA, so we do not get extreme cold weather, but I wanted something to make sure that my horse's water buckets never froze on our coldest nights (20s). These did the job, and as a pleasant surprise, they also keep cool water cooler on warm days. Seem to be durable, and I believe that they will last for many years to come."

"Only reason I did not rate this 5 stars as water still freezes at about 0. But at the same time when other buckets have ice maybe an inch thick, mine does not just a slight icing. The long period of night time feeding to morning is the longest and of course when it would freeze the most. May be a little pricey for someone with mulitiple horses. Good product to use if you do not want to use electric around animals which I do not."

"I had been thinking about buying the Bucket Cozy since last year to help when we have periods of freezing weather. I had read positive reviews elsewhere and since SmartPak has the Cozy with the free shipping, I decided to purchase a couple. I was sure to get the horse used to the Cozy before I needed them. I used them early in the season when we had a stretch of freezing temps. I tested a bucket with a Cozy next to a bucket without the Cozy. The one with the Cozy definitely had little or no ice compared to the other bucket. So far this winter has been mild so I have not been able to test it for the times we have longer cold stretches. It is definitely nice to know that even in freezing temperatures, the horse will still be able to get water."

"I have been using these since November and have now gotten to see how they perform at zero degree temperatures. After an overnight - I have only had about a quarter to a half inch layer of ice on the top, very easy to remove that little bit of ice (without the cozy I would have an almost solid bucket of ice). I do agree with one of the reviews that the stitching on the bucket attachment loops is very weak - on one of the covers - the stitching on one of the loops pulled right out as I was attaching the cover to the bucket (room for improvement there). Overall I am extremely happy with the product and have recommended it to many. A great product for barns & sheds without electricity for bucket heaters and also a great energy saver for all of us wanting to reduce electric bills! A great product if you are concerned about the safety of electric buckets with playful horses."

"Purchased this a few weeks ago. We already had a day/night when every other bucket in the barn had ice that we had to bang out. But my horse's bucket with the cozy on it only had a small film of ice on top. My horse didn't like the top cover, but otherwise leaves it alone and works great. I think it is an excellent product for barns that do not have electricity or want to cut back on electric use and not use the electric buckets. I have already told friends about the product."

"The Bucket Cozy is exactly what it say it is - an effective and economical solution for insulating your horses bucket. It does a fantastic job at keeping the ice away in temp down to 28' (hasn't gotten colder yet). Only negative thing is that I managed to tear half the stitching on the part that covers the opening of the bucket the fist time I removed it from the bucket! This part only has one thin line of stitching holding the pieces together. That being said, my horse has removed the bottom part that surrounds the bucket and tossed it around and it holding up great! I took the top part to the the tailor to have it reinforced and then I think it will be perfect. Once I get the top part back on, he hopefully wont be able to toss it around."
