Is Cosequin Powder a good choice for pain relief for equine arthritis? Can it be used in pregnant mares?
My Paso Fino mare (6 years) has been diagnosed with arthritis. She has been through some hoof issues as well but that has been taken care of. The arthritis though is making her legs stiff and I want to aid her with pain relief especially during show season.
She is currently 3 months pregnant and I need something that won't affect her pregnancy or her offspring development in any way.
Please send me any suggestions with regards to Cosequin or any other arthritis/joint supplement or medication.

Thanks for your question. No studies have been completed that specifically address the use of Cosequin during pregnancy. Use of Cosequin during pregnancy should be an individual decision made in consultation with your veterinarian.

Cosequin has been great for my horses. I have a senior Saddlebred rescue who has road-founder and extensive arthritis. With the combination of Cosequin, SmartHoof, a great farrier and good nutrition, he is barefoot and gallops around with my younger horses as though he never had a lame day in his life. Cosequin has also provided great support for my 6 yo Saddlebred mare after treatment for a partial tear of her medial collateral ligament. She remains sound and progressing beautifully in dressage. I trust in Cosequin for my horses and plan to continue using it if I have my mare bred as well.
