Question

We are trying to cut as much sugar out of my horse's diet as possible, but I see that the Smart wafers have molasses in them. How much sugar?

My horse is borderline Cushings. We are trying to give him as little sugar as possible, and cut out sugary treats. I would like to get the APF in the Smart Pak as opposed to ordering the full bottles, but I see the Smart Wafer contains molasses. This seems like it would be counterproductive for me. I was just wondering approximately how much sugar is in the Smart Wafers, so I can decide if this is a concern.

Thanks for your question. SmartWafers contain less than 1% sugar, which comes from the small amount of blackstrap molasses used in the cookie. It’s also worth noting that blackstrap molasses contains lower amounts of sugar than regular molasses.

Thanks for your question. The recommended serving of APF for horses in light work is 2-3 ml daily, and for horses in heavy work or intense training, 4-6 ml daily. For horses with metabolic issues, 2 ml daily per 250 lbs of body weight is recommended.
