Thanks for your question. The SmartPink and SmartBlue Thinsulate Turnout Blankets do run a little large. If your horse has a more slender build, you might need to go down a size. If your horse has a stockier build, we'd suggest trying the size 72. Please note, we do offer free returns on all sized items so if the blanket you choose isn't quite the right fit we'll be happy to exchange it at no cost to you. We just ask that blankets be clean and in like new condition when they are returned.

I bought this blanket for my OTTB's. Both of them wear 75, and the 72 fit them both well. My one boy who is a "true" 75 probably could have worn the 75 in this blanket with a little room to spare, but the 72 worked great. My other guy who had a little room to spare in a 75 definitely needed the 72; it fit him beautifully with a little room to spare. My advice would be if your horse is toward the larger end of the 72, check the fit of your current blankets. If they are roomy and adjustable, he probably would easily wear a 69 in this one; however, if your horse is pushing the limits of the 72 with little room to spare, either the 72 or the 69 would probably work. The great thing is that no matter what you order, SmartPak is the best with returns. So, you will have no worries because if one does not work, the one you need will soon be on the way.

Depends on the breed of your horse. I chose the size down for my 29 yr. old Arab because his tail is set high and he was having trouble lifting it with the blanket so far down. If you have a QH whose tail is set low, I'd go with the 72" and let it rest lower over his tail for the warm and waterproofing on his flanks. SmartPak is really good about exchanges, so if you don't like the way it falls when you try a 72", you can always return it for a 69". But they do run a little big. For my warmblood, I got him an 80" and it fits him like an 82" but he's covered and warm and that's what counts for him. Good luck!

My mare usually wears a 78, but I ordered the SmartBlue Thinsulate Blanket in the next smaller size (75) and that fit perfectly for her. So I would guess you may want to order the next smaller size too.
