Thanks for your question. Mare Magic provides dried raspberry leaf to help influence a quiet disposition and temper the effects of hormonal fluctuations. If your mare is a bit moody around her heat cycles, this supplement may help manage that behavior. We’d also suggest reading the reviews posted by other customers for feedback on how Mare Magic has helped their horses.

I use SmartMare Harmony for a mare with a painful season. The supplement lessens her pain, which improves her mood quite a bit.

Thanks for your question! While this product is designed for mares, some of our customers have also reported good results with geldings. We recommend checking with your veterinarian before using this product for your stallion, or you may also want to consider a nutrient-based calming supplement with ingredients like magnesium and B-vitamins.

I use SmartMare Harmony, but it is similar to Mare Magic. These supplements are not calmers, per se, but they calm the mare by lessening the pain she faces during her season. A stallion doesn't have the same hormones as a mare, so the supplement would not work on him, I believe.

Based on the recommendation from my vet, I feed this to my gelding who was gelded at 10 years of age as part of a rescue (he is now 16). He would actively try to breed my mares, especially in the spring. Since he has been on Mare Magic, he has had no stallion like behavior. He is definitely calmer.

Per the label on the package there is 3.78g per scoop, and one scoop is recommended per day. Raspberry Leaf is the only active ingredient listed, and there are no inactive ingredients listed. It appears to only be dried leaves when feeding.

Thanks for your question. Mare Magic does not contain any selenium. Full ingredient lists for each supplement are available on their product pages under “Ingredients”, located next to “Product Details” and “Happiness Guarantee”. While the NRC recommends 1-3 mg of selenium per day depending on lifestage and workload, they estimate that the upper safe limit for this mineral may be as high as 50 mg per day. So while there is a relatively larger margin of safety than previously believed for this particular mineral, we recommend working with your veterinarian to add up the amount of selenium in your horse’s daily diet of hay, grain and supplements to ensure you’re providing close to the recommended level.

According to the label there is no added Selenium in this product. You definitely want to ensure that you are not over-supplementing Selenium. You can calculate how much is the feed and supplements you provide (it should be listed on all labels), and estimate what is in your hay using data from Equi-Analytical for your area - or send them a hay sample for analysis. The National Research Council (NRC) Nutrition Recommendations for Horses offers a good guideline of how much Selenium to feed.
