Will this help prevent impaction colic?
I know colic can happen at any point, but my mare is very sensitive to weather changes and has had frequent impactions due to not drinking enough water in winter and fall. She has salt available and I do add salt to her beet pulp at feedings. Will this dehydrate her more if she chooses not to drink? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to find more preventive care since everything else is available to her, just her water consumption is very poor.
Also do you think that adding SmartDigest would be beneficial? I can't afford the Ultra right now because of vet bills. But I figured I could start her off on the regular then move up.

However, since dehydration can have serious consequences, we recommend that you contact your veterinarian to help assess your horse’s water intake. I had a terrible ordeal with impaction colic in my Thoroughbred this past fall, and I now have SmartLytes in his SmartPak, as well as my other two horses' Smartpaks. Under direction from my equine vet, I have even doubled and tripled the dose, especially during weather changes. I keep a container of the powder and the pellets on hand, too. I also added SmartDigest to my Thoroughbred's SmartPak. I really think this product helps him with digestion. The consistency of his manure seems perfect most days.
