Question

Comparing Supplements?

I already have my horse on SmartDark and Handsome supplement, but I am considering switching to this instead. I love how it has kept him nice and dark the whole year, but my only problem with it is that it is a powder. My horse gets a pelleted grain, so it just goes to the bottom. My only question is that would this keep his coat shiny and dark like the SmartDark and Handsome? He is a black and white paint, and I would like to keep him that way! Haha! :)

Thanks for your question. SmartCombo Pellets provide the active ingredients from SmartShine, as well as SmartFlex II Support, SmartHoof, and SmartDigest. In terms of skin & coat support, both SmartDark and Handsome and SmartShine contain flax seed, rice bran and soybean oil to support healthy skin and a shiny coat. However, SmartDark & Handsome also provides chia seed and fish oil, 2 additional sources of healthy omega 3 fatty acids, plus paprika, nutmeg, spices that are thought to help maintain dark, rich coat color. So, while your horse would absolutely still get skin & coat support from SmartCombo Pellets, he may not receive quite the same level of benefit in terms of keeping his coat color dark.

SmartCombo has SmartShine in it, which I found actually works better than SmartDark & Handsome. My dark bay thoroughbred looks the best I've ever seen him on SmartCombo.

Question

how well does this help with mane and tail repair?

My 12 year old Paint Mare has had severe breakage of her tail (it used to drag on the ground) and now it's just above her ankles I never brush it unless it's wet and been conditioned.

Thanks for your question. SmartCombo Pellets provides omega 3 fatty acids to support a healthy mane and tail from the inside out. While this supplement may help your mare grow a beautiful mane and tail, we also recommend using a topical conditioner such as Shapley’s Original M-T-G. This product aids in keeping the hair soft and pliable for maximum growth with minimum breakage.

answer 2
The coat supplement in SmartCombo should make the tail hairs grow faster and stronger. So yes, it should help with tail breakage to some degree. It can only do so much for breakage at the end of the tail due to dragging/catching on things, though.

Question

dosage for large horse already on joint supplement

Hi there, I was just wondering what the appropriate dosage for this product is for my draft cross. He weighs approx 1700 lbs. He is already on a good joint supplement, so he shouldn't need a loading dose for those things. He is currently getting about 11000 mg MSM, 5,000mg Glu, 250 mg condroitin, and 20mg HA. He does have residual issues from his arthritis on that does. Thanks!

Question

Dosage for a pony

There's already a question about dosage for a large horse. I assume that the dosage listed would be for a 1000 to 1200 pound horse....my pony is between 650 and 750 lbs., should I adjust to a 3/4 dose? Also, only a maintenance dose is listed as far as I can tell...what's the loading dose?

Thanks for your question. The regular maintenance dose of 2 scoops would be appropriate for a 750 lb pony. A loading dose for the SmartCombo Pellets is not necessary.

Thanks for your question. Tri-Amino is a targeted amino acid supplement and only contains 3 ingredients, whereas SmartCombo Pellets are a multi-purpose formula designed to offer joint, hoof, coat, and digestive support. SmartCombo Pellets and Tri-Amino both provide dl-methionine, l-lysine, and l-threonine, however Tri-Amino has higher level of these ingredients. If you switched to SmartCombo Pellets instead of your horse’s current supplements, he or she would be getting the same level of joint support, a comparable level of omega 3 fatty acids, plus the additional benefits of hoof and digestive support.
